Finally got some pictures uploaded of my 85 R rebuild that I have underway at the moment. This is one of the machines I bought in 07 that the previous owner had the frame powdercoated black and was going to use yellow plastics on it to match a Banshee he had. Plastics and OS tank went one way ( 3 leggeddog) and I went with red plastics which I new i would change someday.
this winter I brought the machine into the basement for a full overhaul. All new bearings, cables, plastics ect as well as a few other pcs I have been gathering over the last year. Still have a few weeks left to get it completed but heres the progress so far.

Ross..

Black frame that I started with

I picked up a full set of black plastics for this one as well. I also ran across a set of old maier blue shrouds that were a match to the blue seat, These were going to be a temporary set until I could swing a custom seat from the
Moshes but now that I have them mounted I think they are keepers and the black ones can sit in the bag for now.
Still some stuff to finish, The +2" Westcoast is at the powder coaters now and should be back in week, the engine needs a good cleaning on the outside and will happen this week. And then to button everything back up. Silver Lake in June will be it's maiden voyage:w00t: , but I'll have the other 85 as backup just in case:rolleyes:

What do you think?

Nice start Ross, looks great, I like how you had the bolts redone, I think that will set it off in the end. Watch my auctions this weekend, I've got a batch of mint and NOS R parts coming up Sunday evening.

Wow. I REALLY like that! What color are you going with for the engine? Can't wait to see how she comes together!

Engine will be factory black to start with and hopefully have polished side cases by the end of summer. Ultimately it will have a new PT Hi-rev with chrome finish
when the budget allows, but the black one I have will do for now, Christmas is coming you know:lol:  .
I so thought about that chrome frame x system had on E-bay a couple weeks ago and decided against it, $$ and keeping it clean aren't in my plans.
Thanks for the comments guys, I'll keep the pics coming as I progress with this one..

Polished rims all around buddy, Just got a new 11" last week for the front and I have a new tire I got from someone:beer . On the back I've got a new set of 8" with fast trekkers and a good set of 10" for the desert traks.
I'll just try and stay out of your way next time.

Just got my swinger back from the coaters tonight and had to get it on the machine:Bounce :Bounce :Bounce . Swinger is a +2" i picked up from Itrike last year, new decals from xsystem. New swinger bearings and axle bearings/seals.
I couldn't understand why Westcoast wouldn't put brake line anchor points on their swingers when they made them so I had a couple square blocks tig welded to the swingarm to re-use my brake line clips. Everything looks nice and shiny now but I can guarantee it won't stay that way long:beer . Couple more weeks and it should be ready to ride.
More updates to follow

Ross..

Here you can see the blocks I had welded on

No it's my original axle that I had re-plated, along with all the drive hubs, bolts, nuts. spacers ect. Anything that was a brite zinc or the yellow zinc was re-plated.
Thanks for the kind words

I'm so close I can almost taste it, I'm waiting for a 14t front sprocket to get here so I can size my chain with out using a half link. So front sprocket, chain, rear wheel hubs to tighten and cotter pin and another full go round checking every nut and bolt (3rd time) and she's done. Great weekend here to get it outside finally and back to the trailer, My wife's getting tired of walking around it in the house, and the garage is too full to do anything in there.

Enjoy the pics (I have lots) and let me know what you think:beer :beer

Ross..

First few are with my 18" fast trekkers on 8x8 rims, for fairly smooth open trails, also I think it looks the best with these.

Here's a few with my sand tires on, 22x14x10 Sand tires unlimited Dessert traks on 10x10 Mitchell wheels. I finally rode these last time to the dunes and loved them. Not as good as a straight paddle for straight line racing but a great all around tire, easy to slide, great traction everywhere and smooth on the hard pack.
Enjoy

I als just picked up a set of 9" rims and tires off a Polaris Outlaw, 4-110 bolt pattern and a hellish offset to them. Run them backwards and with a stock axle your over 50" wide:w00t: . Sometime I'll get some better tires for them but I will be trying them as they sit. Here's a couple with them mounted up.

Not trying to pry but to set my expectations (of someday owning a comparable machine) how much you got into that beast?

Wow,

Looking real nice there Ross, great attention to detail.

Worth the time to re plate bolts and other various parts, as this to me is what makes the real difference on a restoration.

A bike to be proud of.

Bike looks sharp and will do for many years to come.

Well done dude!...........:beer

Not trying to pry but to set my expectations (of someday owning a comparable machine) how much you got into that beast?

Typically I don't keep track for my own personal safety (wife) but as a best guess I would say around 3500 into it as it sits. I have not touched the motor as it had a fresh bore with 20 or so hrs on it. only item replaced inside was the counterbalancer bearing holder which had a cracked mounting tab. Staying out of there keeps the cost down as well as starting off with a good clean and more importantly complete trike. If I had to start hunting down "needed" parts rather than "wanted" parts the cost could really balloon.

Worth the time to re plate bolts and other various parts, as this to me is what makes the real difference on a restoration.

You are correct there Gordon, like a cherry on a sundae, without it it's just ice cream:rolleyes: . I tossed around a stainless kit which would have looked great as well but it didn't help me out with the axle and other stuff, and this cost about the same as the kit when all said and done.

Wow,

Looking real nice there Ross, great attention to detail.

Wow Gordon,, Thanks for the compliment, Coming from the owner of the best looking trikes on either side of the pond that means a lot..

Thanks for the comments guys, not sure how long it will look this way (till I get that sprocket and get riding it ,that's how long) I appreciate them.
