My ex called me today(they live in SW Michigan) asking what she should look for on and what to ask the seller about on an '85 250R. I've been smiling ever since.....

Background: My two boys(12 and 14) that live in Michigan have been riding dirt bikes for a few years. The 12-year old has an '05 TTR125 and a '90-something RM80. My 14-year old has had the RM80, then moved up to a CR125. My 12-year old likes bikes more, but my 14-year old has expressed more than once wanting a 3-wheeler instead of his CR.

Today he gets his wish.

Mom went and picked up the 250R after I talked to the seller extensively. Turns out the R only has about 2 hours on a new topend AND new crank/ bearings/seals....FMF exhaust, new bearings all the way around, and fresh brakes for $1200.

They were here in Alabama for their Spring Break last week and he rode my Tecate well enough for me to think that the R won't put him in the hospital on day-1, so I'm tickled for him.

I'm waiting on the "daddy mandated ride-counseling call" I required BEFORE he fires it up for his first ride this evening when he gets home. I'll get him to send me pics to post(or join us himself and post them) as early as possible.

They(including the RM and the 250R) come back down here around the first of June to stay for 8-weeks. Dad on Tecate, son on 250R......summer is gonna be cool this year!

Still waiting on pics.

Just got the first ride report and he's stoked! He said "awww man, I love it!" He's taking my advice and gradually getting to know the machine before attempting to ride it hard, but did manage an "unexpected" 3rd gear wheelie(yeah sure....unexpected.....I know who's blood is in his veins...lol). He said it felt like a match for my Tecate.

Sounds like he's got my competitiveness as well. I'm loving it:)

I can relate to your enthusiasm, When this new law happened and they said you can not buy anymore bikes for children under twelve, My son replied, "But dad, what's wrong with my ATC? I love my ATC, and if it's ok for you, then it's okay for me"
I teared.......

He is only 0 tho, so a little different, but you get the point ;)

Found these pics in my E-mail this morning. His mother's camera is fuzzy....sorry.

Looks like he'll be getting rear fenders and another front tire for(before) his birthday. I remember having that same look on my face when i got my first R(@12yo):)

Is the Step Dad Riding a QUAD ? ? ?

If you're talking about the guy with the Warrior in the one pic, no. That's my boys' friend/neighbor. Step dad is cool(he and I have drank several beers together back in February when I was up there), but he doesn't ride.
