View Full Version : Considering buying near-mint 200m - worth it?

I can probably talk to seller down to $1000 Canadian (approx $815 US) for a near mint 1985 200m and just wondering if it's a great deal, or if 200m's are pretty common and someone could find one in great shape for this price quite easily.

I'm looking for a trike for my father to ride - but wasn't quite ready to buy one for him yet. I just don't want an opportunity like this to pass me by if I'm unlikely to find another bike in similar shape for the same price.

Thanks for any info you can provide! Here's pics of the beauty:

granpas bike ,maybe 10 tanks of gas through it.c/w ownership, manual.almost mint. you dont see them like this anymore.$1250.00 obo.no trades.no dumb offers.electric start(bad battery)

In that kind of shape, it's probably worth it! I got my 85 Big Red in near mint for 1000$ but waited about 8 years for a deal like that. I'd go for it. The "M" is pretty rare around here too.

OMG buy it!! What the heck u waiting on?! I would buy it and put it away somewhere. Thats to nice of a bike to get dirty. Also yes M's are much rarer than the other 200's. Seriously thats like better than restored. You dont find them like that anymore unless they are ouuta a crate. Buy it and save it. It will bring you much more $$ down the road.:beer

Wow that thing is sweet. I could see that bringing $800 US easy.

It seems like the trikes owned by old men are always in the best shape lol.

Can you buy a decent big red for similar cash's?

I agree with autoxer, with the whole suspension bit and whatnot.

hey Xhumeka the 200m's arent all that hard to find up here in Ontario almost as common as the 84 200es thats a very nice example of a tru low hr bike, $1250 is too much to have peaked my interests tho..

Around here 200m's are commom but I must admit, I oves those bikes. A bike that shape I've seen sell for 1400 around here and imo its well worth 1000. I wish a mint BR would sell for 1000 around here. Most Big reds around ehre are about 800 and huge piles of crap. To get a 100 orginal and mint big red here is about 2500 bucks.

200m's are rare to say the least around here. Plus if one is ever seen it's almost always a rat bike...That bike is sweet, and for short money too. buy $ buy $ buy $

It doesn't matter if it's worth it to us, it matters if it is worth it to you. If you are looking for a sport trike with suspension and you are on a budget. Then I would say hold out until you find what you want.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I already have my toy Vealmonkey (250r) - this was something I was considering for my father.

But I think userj8670 is right... a bike in that shape is too nice to buy for a farm beater (what my father would be using it for). I think I'll hold out for now and look for one in "decent" shape that's a bit cheaper. That way I won't be cringing everytime I see him throw a cord of wood on the rack or something ;)

Thanks again guys - thoughts were much appreciated.

Did you ever buy the mint 200m?

buy it and put it on display somewhere, it would be foolish to mess up what must be one of the very few pristine 200M models left anywhere...very very nice

No, I ended up buying an '86 250SX in _almost_ the same condition:

My father loves it - we spent some time clearing trails in our bush over the weekend and he towed back 1200 lbs with it! I was surprised by the fact he was able to tow that much weight up a slight hill in 2nd gear... I heard the engine working, but it did it!

I just wish it had front and rear racks... if any of you guys have either racks for sale shoot me a PM!

*edit* - found a set of rear racks! Thanks ATCTim!

Great looking trike. But, you/your dad need to determine what he wants for a ride. I personally would not buy that trike for the woods. It is too nice to beat up. I would keep it around just because it is really clean.

Guess I should have read the rest of the post. You have a really nice 250sx there!!!!!!
