Will a cylinder and head from an 83 XR200 bolt on to an 85 200x? Have read conflicting statements about it. My 200x topend is trashed (dropped a valve) and have read that the xr200 has a larger bore and higher compression ratio. I Have a line on a xr200 top end and would like to to go that route.

yes, a XR200 top end will bolt onto a 200X bottom end, as long as the XR200 top end is not the duel carb, 4 valve head. the XR200 does have a larger bore (65.5mm xr200 vs 65mm 200x) and a higher compression ratio (10:1 xr200 vs 9.6:1 200x). i would also recommend the XR200 carb, intake manifold, and cam, as these are performance upgrades for a 200X.

The xr topend is off a 97, is the cam still the same as the older xr's? also what year manifold to match up to stock airbox on the 200x? have heard 1990 and want to make sure. Thanks for the input, glad I found you guys!

Is the XR top end from an 83 or 97? You say both.

not sure, but im guessing the cam is the same as the older XR's. try searching online for specs on various year XR200s. also the cooling fins on the XR200 cylinder are smaller then on the 200X's. for what year intake manifold will swap see these links, they should help you out.

how much power is lost down low when you do this? i heard that that cam is made to turn a higher rpm and the power is made up high...

you dont have to switch out the cdi also to run a higher rpm do ya?

im trying to boost the power in my 82 200E with out breaking the bank too much...

Xr200 cylinder has smaller fins ...... you should use the cylinder from your trike. XR guys are swapping for the 200x cylinders to gain the added cooling. I just got a xr cam for my project and it dosen't seem that much bigger than the X. If you don't want to spend the money don't because your not going to make a racer with stock parts!!!

you cant use the 200x top end with out small mods.the fins from the 200x are quite a bit larger ,there far the starter doesn't wont to bolt up right.easy fix.you can bend the down tube,or slightly shave some of the fins off.
