I would say it is supposed to be in there. I like how they always become deformed.

I have no idea if it original. I have found them in my old KXs though.

It's funny, I think many of us still think of allowing more volume and increasing diameters for better flow both in and out of an engine.....

I've read where opening up an intact on a thumper (not your pinger obviously) actually HURTS performance.... Mindboggling at the least!

All and all, I'm not sure if were always doing the right thing. If that belongs in there, I wonder how many people think "this is restricting it and I'm losing power!!"

So, how do we make our own test flow benches?? :D

its supposed to be there. i'm not the best to explain it, but the smaller opening is or should be the same size as the id of the intake. and the tapering helps direct the fuel air mixture into the reeds. just a wide open cage may screw up the turbulance of the mixture.

Mine has that in there as well. If Kawisaki put the time and effort into having that piece made to fit in there I'm sure they didn't do it to reduce the power of their race trike.

The fuel will make more of a straight shot rather than being spread to the sides right away and may also help with suction to increase flow. One can increase volume before the reed cage but most do it after the cage.

Personally, I have run with and with out them and couldn't tell much difference.

It's there to help increase velocity.

the '86 stuffer is pointless if you are using a '85 intake boot...
