About to change out the cam chain and guides on the 200x. Can somebody walk me through the easiest way to do this. Any tips, tricks, things to watch out for? This is for an 84 200x

remove cam gear, and the flywheel, from there it's pretty easy. Best thing would be to get the manual that's posted on this site somewhere it walks you through it with pic's and words.

Neither; you should be able to remove the cdi pick up, cam gear, and the flywheel, then take the tension off the adjuster and remove the chain.

Removing the cylinder head is required if you want to change the chain guide

Sorry my bad, I didn't read that he wanted to change guides in the first post. Yes in that case you need to remove the cylinder head to change the guide. There should be no need to remove the cylinder though.

yup gotta pull the head off to repalce the guides. actually both the head off and the jug. but it's not hard and as long as your there, eh may want to think about a re-ring job at a minium.

Don't get him started! lol. I pulled my head and cylinder off to check my rings and my piston was kinda toasted. So I bored the cylinder and got a Wiseco. I figured what the heck I have it apart so I also put in a new timing set. At that point I thought well I don't want to trust all these new parts to a 25 year old oil pump, so I changed that out too!

thanks for the advice guys. Everything went fine, ended up not replacing the guide and just the tensioner and chain. The ticking is gone and it seems to run a bit better too.
