I just recently picked up a 1986 tecate with a 2 hour fresh rebuild and i have a few questions. I looked around some of the answers but wasn't quite satisfied. Now i'm running 250 P.S.I. cold and 230 hot, I'm running 83 ocatane theres no knocking and seems to be running fine but i think i'm gonna take the head off and look for detnation. I have a dg pipe with cobra silencer, i imagine it's jetted cause it starts and runs good. My quetsion is should i run higher octane and fix something that might not be broken? and i have little droplets of coolant coming from my head gasket but i'm not burning any coolant any ideas what this could be? and 250psi is high any ideas where i could be getting 250 psi from? thanks for your time.

I always wondered if there was somewhere to tell how much compression each bike is supposed to have. I checked my owners manuals and it doesn't say how much compression they are supposed to have. My T3 owners manual gives trouble shooting and just plainly says if the compression is low, then give examples on the possible causes. Nowhere does it mention a range that the compression should be. I'd like to know how much compression my T3 AND 350x are supposed to have.

I'll watch this thread and see what kind of answers you get in hopes I can use that info for my questions too.

I could be mistaken, but 250 sounds high to me. Maybe they decked the head or cylender, but that still seems a bit high.

I always run super in my machines. These small engines are very finicky and really like the high test.

My 85 has always done the droplets of coolant from the head gasket and I'm not sure why, even with a new head gasket. Yours may be exaggerated because of the high compression.

The cylinder may have been bore to the maximum cut and the head is still in stock form . That it self will raise the compression. 250 is way high and it can be corrected by having the squish band cut to the proper size . 250 will be hard on the bottom end. 83 octane is very low and i would run 93 or more but if your not having detination then don't worry about it .

might be the kx head gasket. mx head gaskets are ussualy thinner then quads, trikes gaskets

250psi is to high. should be from 150-180 psi almost every engine is different, but somewhere in that range is good. over 200 and you should use race gas

MMM race gas. never thought that the squish band could do that also.
Get out the mini grinder tonight lol
