I have an 85 250r that has a few issues around the rear axle.
1. The brake hub is sloppy as sin.
2. I think the axle itself might be tweaked
3. The rotor is pretty much trash, etc...

So I was thinking about having HRE build me a custom swingarm that is for the 250r until you reach the carrier and have that part be for a 450r. So I could incorperate all new parts like caliper,anti-fade hub, so on and so forth. The stock 450r swinger swaps look cool and all but they never seem quite right.

So I wanted peoples opinions on the pros and cons of this idea???

You're going to have way more money into it and probably still have the same small issues that there are with swapping the stock 450r stuff. Seriously a custom arm will be just as much trial and error as swapping the 250r arm.

I was simply reffering to the linkages not being direct bolt on and having to make up bushings and linkages hitting throughout the suspension travel. The ride height issues along with some members having to mill the pivot section to fit. I figure this way the geometry would be spot on and direct bolt in. Not saying there is anything wrong with the stock 450 swinger it is just not a bolt in job. I would rather spend the extra dough to have it bolt in.

thats the only thing keeping me away from the 450 swinger.

Does the phrase CUSTOM made mean anything. if you are getting a race shop to make custom part there should be NO (small issues) to deal wtih. and some of the small issues that i heard of are not small in any way. more like major. ( make up bushings, linkages hitting throughout the suspension travel, ride height, having to mill the pivot section). this does not sound very small to me.

some people grind down the area where the linkage is hitting, idk if it is a good idea but if it works.

It's rather simple to make the swap.

I bought my '06 450R swingarm with linkage from Nac's Racing for $75.00 plus approx. 23.00 shipping. Found it on feebay, but called and purchased over the phone to eliminate associated auction risks and delays.

The hardest parts are cutting down and removing the dust collars, Jason Hall has explained how he did it and then used different thrust washers/seals.

The other hard part (for many people) is making a mount for the front part of the linkage and welding it in the center of the frame.

I could make mounts up if people need them but you better be a good Mig or Tig welder when placing it on your frame.......

Mind you, this is for a 350X frame. The 250R, I would have chopped that mount off and made my own rather than making "centering" bushings.
