Poblems!!!!

Hi Guys.

Im new to this site but am looking for help with my 1985 big red. Its real hard starting and when i do get it to go the idle is all over the place(high then low). I thought it was the carb but cleaned it out spotless and still the same. Then i changed the ignition plate on the top side of the motor and still the same. Anybody have any idea on what else it could be???? Running terrible.

Possible air leak in the intake boot? Start it up and spray some carb cleaner or something else extremely combustible all around and on the intake and see if it changes idle.

Would the coil or timing have anything to do with it
