I got an '80 ATC 110 with no spark. It will spark sometimes but rarely. It popped on starting fuid once. It sat for a long while (by the looks of it) but it's all there. Any common problems?? The points look ok. Where do I start?? Don't know much about these.

Make sure you have a new plug, coil or the condensor might be bad, the plug wire, check the stator, and make sure kill switch is not in the off position. My kill switch on my 79 is worn out and it moves to the off position sometimes when riding it, make sure it has commpression.

Did you actually spec your points or just look at em.......The biggie is the fully open gap....is it opening further then specs?? Im betting your points need closer inspection....Especially since you said mediocre occasional spark. you need a multi meter to check all the other goodies...

I'm with Jenndnn3 here. I have worked on lots of the 90-110's. Those that had erratic spark was found to be a points problem ( on models with points ). I have found points that look good but were dirty and needed replaced or cleaned.

I would start by cleaning and setting the points. I use 1200+ grit emery cloth to clean them. New points aren't too costly either $10-$20
