Alright everyone heres the deal. Just picked up an YTM225DX for free. I know the kid I bought it from and also know the original owner. The kid assured me that it'll run but theres something wrong with the cam. I tore the head off and the cam is not in balance. I really dont know how to explain it. I checked a schematic off of bike bandit and it seems like all the parts are there but that cam still moves up and down a bit as its spinning. What can ya tell me? I'd appriciate it.

Are the journals worn out on the cam or in the head? Is a bushing or bearing surface missing? With a manual, if you take it apart it should be a piece of cake.....

Post up the diagram.

Heres the diagram

As far as it looks nothing is missing. The cam lobes are worn down a bit but i dont think it should be moving as much as it is.

Welcome to 3 Wheeler World!!

Sorry to be the one to bring the bad news but.... the YTM tends to have that inside cam journal wear out when run low on oil. Pull the cam out and take the outside aluminum bushing off. Slide the cam back in and see if it wiggles on the inside journal.

Also check the rockers, if the cam journal is toast the rockers are probably worn too. Check where the rocker rubs the cam for flat spots.

Maybe you will be lucky and it is just the aluminum bushing.

Ok when I get home today i'll check it out. That aluminum bushing your talking about is that "collar" on the diagram? I can get a parts bike so this is no big deal. But ill let you know what I find out.

Yes the bushing is the "collar" (#6).

That bushing looks like its in horrible shape. Also, is it supposed to be stuck on the cam or is there a special way to get it off?

It should slide easily off the camshaft.

Do you need a 225 head and cam? I should have one if you do.

Ok got the parts bike tonight. Pulled the head off it and put it on. Timed it, cleaned the carb, and threw some gas in it and what do ya know, she fired. Idled and everything. Took her on a long ride and it started to bog and shut off. 2 pulls and it fired up again and drove her home. Im not sure but i dont think it was getting oil to the head. It is now for sure, im just waiting to see if anything got screwed up.

There is a check bolt in the top end, remove it whenthe trike is running and oil should come out. The bolt is a 10mm head near the top right of the intake.

Humm the warrior I'm repairing his having head problems. If my friend ever find the parts to repair it I'll have to loosen that bolt. It is exactly like you described it.
