ok i have a 85 250sx i just got, i went over the entire thing.. it sat for about 5 years befor i bought it. the guy properly drained the carb befor storing it so the carb is very clean! but i hooked her upto the fuel and the float wont shut off the incoming fuel. i double checked and read the manual. the float is NOT adjustable. and the manual says to replace the float assembly. so befor i went and ordered it i got my bussies spare parts carb and tried his float and still the same thing. the needle is perfectly fine and the seat is perfectly fine as well. i can hold the needle with my finger and it stops fuel but when the float is on it the float bottems out on the carb befor is shuts the needle.

any help would be great

Well if you went to MMI I am assuming you have a needle and seat pressure tester?

I would replace both the needle and seat and valve seat.

I'd replace the needle valve. There's a small spring plunger in the needle, and those can go bad. It won't provide enough pressure to seal off the fuel. The rubber may be too hard to seal, too. I don't think the ATCs have them, but road bikes have brass tubes that are part of the float bowl overflow. I had a motorcycle that wouldn't stop leaking fuel, and I found those brass tubes were cracked.

heres a ? does it have all its parts for the carb? i know my sx did the same thing just filled up and shut down there is the float bowl that sits around the main jet if its not there and not secure it will cause it to dump fuel and die i used a clip to keep it there and now she runs like a champ
