I am trying to get a 81 atc 70 going for my nephew. (This is a cover up for my wife. I can't wait to get on the little beast. Don't tell!) I purchased it from a guy who set fire to it while re-fuelling. The coil, wires, seat, plastic and just about everything else got burn't. Not cool! Engine ok. I wired up a coil I had kicking around from god knows what. No spark. Checked the points to see if they were melted. Ok. I cleaned and gaped them. No spark. I was told that these use a 6 volt ignition. I installed a 12volt coil. I don't to put money into this thing until I hear it run. Here is my question finally. Do the other larger Honda atc's use 6 volt ignitions. Looking to find a used coil. Also does anybody have a resistance spec for the stator. The manual does not show it.

Any good place in Canada to get parts for a atc 70?

I would think most coils should work. Your local bike shop can get a universal coil from a supplier like Parts Unlimited that is 6 and 12 volt .Here is a online manual

You can save some time and check continuity from engine harness through coil and plug end. I would personally just put new points and condensor on, new plug and end and go from there. The 70's are 6 volt by the way. Never have used another coil other than stock but could not tell you if it would work with yours. Start with all the small stuff........ DRATV.COM has all you need pretty cheap. Good luck. P.s How did you set the points??
