Question for you Polaris P3 experts

I am looking to know the differences in all the Yamaha 225 model front ends. What, if any are the differences?

By front end specifically, lets say from the frame neck forward.

86 had bigger forks thats it I think

The Clymers manual shows that the the 86 (DRS) forks are different.

now all the 200's have the same size forks but some tripples are different

notice, I have a ERN front rack and I flipped the mounts to the outside so it would fit. I also slipped a small piece of rubber in there to protect the fork.

Im still unclear on what tripples are the same,,if any.

All the front brakes are the same also.

Thanks Raffa - what I am getting at in this thread - maybe I should have just been direct is this - what the heck yammi front end is on the Polaris trike??? I need neck bearings - and am looking for tapered needle bearings. I guess this would have been a better way to ask - but I also know the P3s are very uncommon and many would not know the answer - if any!

he says any of the 225's for shure,, BUT contact howdy to confirm,on the bearings,Hagen built a tripple for his polaris ,so he has been in there when he pressed the tube in,He may have replaced them with what your looking for..maybe contact DADS and see what kit He offers,, for each...????

In 1983 Yamaha used different size stem bearings on the top and botom of the YTM 200, I don't remember if they did the same thing with the 225 or not.

They look to be the same sized shaft and race on top and bottom - I think I can safely assume since the 250R/es was made in 85 and 86 only that they used the same 225 triples - which would be the 85 model 225.

I think we have it narrowed down.

Now - I talked to John Swinehart about this once - but have any other P3 owners talked to Polaris dealerships about parts. From what John tells me - they are pretty clueless and will most likely not even realize Polaris ever even made a 3 wheeler.

Sparrow had a cool Polaris site that had a most models w/ parts cross references. I had the site saved on a my computer, but that was 2 computers back LOL. I know he sent the site to HOWDY and SWINEHART. I will do some searching, but maybe they will speak up.

I did some looking and it looks like Polaris used balls and not needle. I am sure HOWDY will speak up once he see this.

I am wondering if there were ever tapered needle bearings available for the yammi that will fit the P3 rather than using the balls - if not that is OK - I am now searching for the number of balls there are - I recovered 38 off my floor :)


EDIT - found it - I must have recovered the mall - it does show 38 being the magic number. I guess you get lucky sometimes
