Well, after a bunch of work and cash I'm nearing actually RIDING the damn thing! Hope I get to though; money has been getting tight and I might have to sell this :(

Just had the 20x11x8 ITP Holeshots installed on my Douglas rims. Think the offset is a little wider than stock...

Front tire is a Carlisle Trail Wolf (23x8x11). Just had that put on and all new front bearings and seals.

The handlebars are from a Banshee but fit fine. Twist throttle from an 85 250r. Nice new Scott grips and some hand guards finish it up.

Trike had no lights when I got it... found some and installed them as well as a new Ricky Stator... uh, stator. Still don't work though...

Plastics are nearly new Meier ones and the seat cover is new too. This was done by the guy before me.

It has DG slip on now. Looking to get the matching DG pipe too.

Still have to install the brakes (have everything finally) and the new Boss ATV rear bearing carrier. Have a new red chain to install too as well as a 85 250r carb if I ever get to it.

What do you guys think? Any idea what I would ask for it if I -was- to sell it?

Id guess...start at 8-900 $ depending on what you got in it and your area? Looks good w new tread and all. Im not a big fan of any thing but factory plastic though, but thats just me. :)

Does the Maier plastic look any different or just different decals?

^ Different decals, and the color is not a perfect match to Honda OEM.

Bad news, this thing sat for quite some time with water in the crank and cylinder. I enclosed a bunch of pictures to show the extent of the damage. The crank bearings are completely shot, there is almost 3/16'' of vertical play, and there is about 1/8'' of vertical play in the center bearing. You can see the heavy scoring in the cylinder from it being stuck and unstuck. Jug is at 71mm right now. 20 thousands will clean it up. Just the parts alone are going to be about $500 Let me know what you want to do.

How long do you think it'll last as is? It DID run :p

Joking of course!

I'll give you a call and we'll figure out what to do. Somehow I KNEW this thing was going to be thrashed inside. Least now I'll have some peace of mind once it's fixed.

I have a spare jug or two that you might can use with a hone. Don't know anything about the head, but it will be the weekend before I could post any pics...

Ok, I'll definately keep you in mind. He thinks this one might survive with a .020 (more) over bore. It's currently at .040 over.

Like aaron said, the jug is useable, just needs a little massaging. I split the cases last night, tranny looks good. Anyone here have a good crank for sale? Im hesitant on having this one rebuilt as it has some minor pitting where the seal rides on the stator side, no sense in using it's going to destroy the seal and suck up a bunch of air. I got your new carrier installed.

Cool on the carrier!

I ordered the HR rod and the full gasket set. I can get a Wiseco set for .060 or .080, just let me know which.

Better hold off on the piston set till i talk to my bore guy, i will drive over there before friday. Your crank has some pitting on one of the shafts, im reluctant to use it as i think it will eat the seal. Post an ad in the classifieds for a rebuildable crank, someone should be able to hook you up for cheap. I would feel better if we put that new rod kit in a better core. If your looking for something else to buy, get a complete seal kit for the motor also. The countershaft seal and kicker seal are leaking. The whole kit can be bought for like 30 bucks. Also you will need the clip that holds the front sprocket on, yours is broken in half. This is a honda only part i think, but prob only like 5-10 bucks.

Is your finger right next to a crack on that sleeve too Jeff??

3rd pic from the bottom, off and below to one side of the reed cage opening.....

I wonder if you could turn the crank down a MM or 2 yet still allow for the flywheel to bury properly?? I have a seal place that gets me near any seal I want and I do that quite often. The flywheel may not allow for that though......

Ya that seal kit will work just fine. D/C, it does look like a crack, although it isnt its just pitting, stains from the rings being stuck. Im sure if we got creative with the lathe and turned down the crank lobe and pressed on a custom made sleeve that would work, the flywheel wont mind that, but i think it would be easier to get a new used crank, they still seem to be common enough to get one cheaper than go through all the work of rigging this one. Thanks for the input though D/C!!

Hmm... I can't find crank bearings (besides the Chinese $20 ones on ebay).

All Balls doesn't list them (though 'dads' said they might have them if I can get the measurements)

Does anyone have the numbers or measurements of them?

I have a spare bottom end, but can't get my hands on it until this weekend.......build me a list of what you need engine parts wise and I'll get it together and send pics on Saturday....

Think I just need the crank. I ordered everything else long as my jug is OK!

I will look into the crank bearings for you. I dropped the cylinder off on thurs, he will call me sometime early this week to let me know how it turns out. For some reason i thought the crank bearings were the same as the water pumper R's, but im not sure now. Ill do some measuring later today.

Awesome, let me know what the machinist says so I can order the piston set.

If the crank bearings ARE the same as the 85+ that would be great as then I can get All Balls and not super-China brand.

Ok, .060 over Wiseco set on its way. Oil seals, gasket set, and HR rod kit all here now.

Jeff, shoot me a PM with what the machine work and your labor is going to cost. Hope it isn't TOO bad, I hope to be able to get my money back out of this thing someday! haha

Wiseco came in today. Just need the crank bearings and a crank and we're in business.

I should have a crank for you tomorrow.....

^Cool, let me know!

Jeff, do you see anything inside that would explain why the kick only caught half the time?

jeffatc250r
03-22-2009, 12:25 PM
Aaron, the kicker slipping is a simple fix, i will look more into that, cool on the crank and other parts. Ill call you tonight to discuss everything.

Well, Jeff has finished up the trike. Starts first kick and runs awesome! (so I've heard, yet to pick it up!)

New motor, functional brakes (except the front, need a new master cyl)... totally rideable!

He couldn't install my new bearing carrier as my swingarm is all cracked and rewelded. I need to find a new swingarm!

Couldn't use my new chain yet either as my rear sprocket is all hooked. Just ordered a NOS Honda one from ebay.

Pics and a vid to follow!
