View Full Version : Yamaha Driveshaft parts

Hey guys, I'm here to see about getting a specific part for a 84 Yamaha YTM200EL. I've tried many online stores and they say that many of the parts have been discontinued (naturally).

Here's what's broken and needs to be replaced...

Now does anyone know how to get this fixed or replaced? I may also consider getting a whole new rear end if the $ is right. The thing is, the bike is in great condition and runs fantastic, it's just this part that's broken. I guess stuff like this is bound to happen when a 16 year old thinks the bike is invincible...

The gear on my YTM-200 also broke at the same place. But I think the reason is because the axle bearing on the right side was long due to replace. You may want to check it before rebuilding. You can also change the two gears in the final drive with them of a YTM-225. You will gain top speed and loose bottom end power.

And I just so happen to have a 225 rear end for sale.

Hmmm, why did that gear fail??

Are the bearings tight? Did it get rebuilt without the right shims?

Speaking from HONDA here, diffs are very very tough!!

Like I stated in my previous post, the final drive on my trike broke exactly like knighter's one and it was because I used the trike for a very long time with the bearing at the right side of the carrier with 1/16 of play in it.

Well the story is my dad bought it new in 84 (I believe) and rarely drove it for about 4-5 years. After that it sat in our garage until 2005 when I said to myself "that looks like it would be fun to ride if it worked" so 2 months later I got it started and had fun. It ran phenomenal, then my brother got addicted to it. He flipped it several times, got stuck in a lake, drove it into a ditch that was 10 feet down and bent the handle bars to hell, did wheelies ALL the time and all without brakes...so he would down-shift to stop...so yeah. So I don't think it is the axle bearing, but I'll look into it anyway. So what your saying Yamada is you used a YTM-225 axle? If not, where did you get the parts?

If you want I think the 225 axle will fit but it is a weaker part. Just use the gear and pinion of the 225 final drive.

What do you mean by a weaker part, as in the part's physical durability or power? And is that what you used to fix your 200?

If i remember correctly I sold him a 225 differential to fix the 200. That has been a while back ( 3-5 years maybe ).

No you never sell me any parts before.

Here a little more detail about the parts swap.
The gears inside the final drive of the yamahauler can be interchanged with theses from the ytm-225 final drive ( note that the gearing will be 15% higher)
You will need to use the ytm-225 final drive housing and bolt it onto your 200e bearing carrier. The only other parts that need to be changed is the big left-hand nut that keep the pinion shaft in place, use the 200e one on the 225 housing.( the 225 one is longer and won't let the middle shaft slip into the housing)
