Not too long ago i picked up a running 1983 185s for free! Since I've added a uni foam air filter(because it didn't have a filter at all), changed the oil, new bearing and seals on the rear axle, and 2 duro mud & sand 22x11x8 tires. It is running good and doesn't smoke, cranks on the first pull MOST of the time too. Here are some pics from when i first got it

The seat cover is radical. It even came with directions for using the choke. Thats a rare piece.

Yeah the guy I got it from is the kind of person that needs directions on using the choke :wondering And yes the seat cover is a carhartt jacket but I don't care :D

Lucky SOB, nice grab.

I suggest buying some spare pull start rope.

Thats sweet your decompression cable is still there.

The rack was half broke so I took it off. It also rattled really bad...

Sorry for the double post but how does the decompression thing work anyway?

When you pull the recoil starter, there is a cable that gets pulled and then released. Not sure how that mechanism works. I think it's friction. That cable goes to a lever on the head which opens the (exhaust?) valve slightly, making it easier to pull.

The cable connects to a yellow ring inside the housing, when the dog teeth engage to start, it also pull the cable. As far as what it does inside the motor, I dunno. but it takes the compression away to make it easier to start.

Thanks! That's what I thought that it just released compression so it would be easier to start. If it will stop raining I might be able to get some pics today....

I'm gonna try and upload a video today. Is there any way to get a pipe for this thing?
