View Full Version : how to clean a petcock???

i just unscrewed the 2 outside screws and t only took the lever off how do i clean the filter there are 2 larger screws underneath it...should i have a towel handy because it will leak???

Your going to have to pull the tank unless you want a mess on your hands. (if it's full of gas) Unbolt it from the tank and pull it out. there should be a large straw type screen connected to the top that should be cleaned out. unscrew the bowl, you can also take out the two screws and remove the switch. clean it all out and reassemble. quite easy actually.....

drain the fuel and then pullthe petcock from the tank if it has a sediment bowl on the bottom clean it out and the screen ther ealso and then blow it out backwardsto blow the rest of the (crap ) out of it.

ok all done thanks for the help guys....there were alot of rocks and crap i the feul line so i blew that out with the compresser and now im not getting feul do you think it the main jet clogged??

It's very likely that both of your jets are clogged if you were blowing pieces of dirt out of your fuel line. Replacing both jets is cheap. You may even want to just pick up a rebuild kit for your carb, they are pretty cheap as well.
