Does anyone know the exact name of the spark plug that the atc 90 uses, I have a feeling that the plug in this one is not the right one because for the plug wire to fit on it, you have to unscrew the top of the plug, and thats probably why it isn't working.

Help me out somebody.

I just got a 78 atc 90 that wasnt running and i got it to run with the plug that was in it, that i believe is the original plug its a NGK D8HS. Good luck

Sheesh when I first read the topic I thought you actually had 90 seperate problems I was like... :shock: ...anyways, for my YTM200, the plug boot won't connect to the plug unless that top piece is screwed off. Don't worry, it's probably just the way the boot is designed.

yeah my big red is the same way. Have to remove the top cap.

Yeah, when I first got it up to my house and realized that the top cap on the plug was off I was kinda worried, but if all yours is that way too. I went to the hardware store and was going to buy a new plug for it, just to see if it would make a difference, but he didn't have the same one that was in it. I asked him if the plug would still work without the top cap, he said no so I spent 2 bucks on a crappy plug and just screwed the cap off it, turns out it didn't work. Oh yeah, and I had thought I wasn't getting a spark either...WRONG. I found out the hard way. I remembered that to start it you need to mess witht he switch on the headlight so I did that, and held the wire up to the plug(the plastic that actually holds the wire around the plug is broken off so you need to hold it to get good contact) and had my dad pull it....ouch. I'll just say my entire hand was numb for about an hour. lol If I can I'll take some pics sometime, and if I can find the software for my scanner, I'll scan them and post them up here.

Any other tips, or stuff I should try?

I called the dealership to get the sparkplug specs on my big red. (I know that doesn't help on a sunday). As for troubleshooting, it can only be a few things. Fuel, Air, Spark, and you're getting spark. How's your carb?

I don't know how clean my carb is, but I imagine it probably needs cleaned, I just don't know much about them and neither does my Dad so we don't want to tear into something we don't know about unless we know its the problem. But I am getting ready to take off the intake and see if I can clean out the carbureator. Ideas?

yeah, go to bikebandit.com and look up the schematics for your bike. Just follow the instructions on the website. You'll be able to get a detailed view of the carb without taking it apart. That way you'll know what you're looking at when you do. There's not much to it. If you end up with a handful of crap and you don't know where it goes, look at the schematic or ask someone.

I rebuilt the carb on my 90. I bought a kit from Dennis Kirk for $12.00 and a new float from service honda for $16.00. Once i got an intake boot on it she runs mint. To rebuild the carb it is very simple, all the parts in the kit are basically self explanitory as to where the go, just take out the old part and replace with a new one and clean it real well with carb cleaner and a tooth brush.
