86 tecate project starting.... NOW

i just picked up a 86 tecaten the other day, in good shape pretty much, for free... a good friend of mine had it in the garage, and he's lookin at a forced vacation for a long time behind bars, so he told me to take it.. and keep it..

i've had an 84 tecate in mint condition, but this one needs some work.
i need a kick start, front fender, gas tank shrouds and a gas cap.... thats pretty much it.... where can i find this stuff ?

i wanna powdercoat & chrome everything. what dirtbike shocks fit the front ?
what quad shock fits the back ?? are there any stretched swingarms out there ??
what kickstart would fit ?
are front fenders discontinued ?

how does everyone get there bikes different colors ?? i saw a yellow 250r...
painted fenders ? or what ?

any custom swingerarms ?

my motor runs great, just gotta push start it lol.

why would you wanna try dirtbike forks? i dont think any would work really, you would have to bore your tripples and such. as for rear shocks, 300ex, banshee, raptor, all work with little mods. good luck trying to find an extended swinger, they are kinda hard to come by. kick starters can be found, and front fenders are on egay. try posting a want ad in the classifieds section for parts you need.

Well the plastics you can get at dealer or buy Kaw on egay except the headlight plastic and right shroud. Hornetpowersports has repro shrouds and headlight.
As stated you have to do mods to make the bike forks work on trikes but doable. They are fun projects but careful cuz sometimes the frustration can get the best of you.
Check out my build I am just finishing up and maybe that will give you some hope that anything is possible.

Front fender still available from Kawasaki... Shrouds from Justin (hornetpowersports ) here one the boards... gas cap, from a mojave or lakota.

thanks guys, i'm gonna post a pic or 2 here in a minute of what im starting with, remember, its free..

i kinda wanted to do everything black, but its pretty much impossibly to paint the fenders and have them last..

i gotta post a WTB ad, turns out my kickstart shaft is stripped. and i have a few odds & ends to buy, but i wanna tear her down and re-do the whole bike...


does anyone rebuild front forks ? looks like the left fork leaks.. plus the other one's dead too...
i'll swap out the rear with a quad shock.

hey for free thats not bad at all my friend. i paid 250 for my roller and it had less to it then that one does. t3's are a bit harder to find parts for, but they are out there if you do reasearching and checking ebay, the classifieds here, etc... so dont get discouraged if it takes you a bit to find the parts, the end reward is awesome, when you fire that beast up and rip thru the gears for the first time.

i rode the bike today, a lil push, and she fired up... rode for a lil while.. nice power band to it.... for sittin in his garage for a year, she ran smooth.

im gonna start tearing it down soon, i have a buddy that powdercoats, so im gettin alot of stuff done.

what i dont like, is that its got a kx250 ignition system.. i want a headlight, i looked at rickystator, but i might need a whole wiring harness, not sure if i can make one, i know i'll need a rectifier, and the stator, and a switch, not sure what else...

i got plans for the bike.. i'm not in a rush, i have other stuff to ride, plus i work all the time..

anyone know where to find a chain adjuster ?i'm missing one and kawasaki said their discontinued....
i tore town the swingarm yesterday, ordered bearings, getting the carrier powdered, and the swinger polished.

There are some 84 and 85 ones on there right now, I think they are the same as the 86...right?
