I'll tell you the story. there was a guy who was trying to sell a mint condition Honda Big Red that was complete and beautiful right down to the tool box. He had it sitting on a hill by a main highway for a couple months with a for sale sign but no takers. Then he finally put it right beside the road and made a huge wood sign that said $300. It still took a couple weeks to sell.

One day while driving past his place I saw the garage door open and got a glimpse of what I thought was a 350X. I let the thought go, but it hounded me so I finally went to see if he may still have the Big Red 250 (for an excuse). He said no but he was considering selling his other 3 wheeler and took me to the garage to see it.

There sat a 350X. Granted it needs some work. It isn't beat up but it got some use and has fallen prey to the outdoor elements . The seat cover went bad so the guy taped it up with duct tape.

The rear brake caliper and cable are missing. The front brake works fine. He let me take it for a spin in his open field and it started right up and runs like a top and all 6 gears felt great. It slid and wheelied with no effort what so ever.

It does need a little TLC. I may be able to take off the tape and put on a new cover. the rear fenders could use replaced and i'have to buy a rear brake caliper etc, for it. Otherwise, it's a great trike.

I haven't priced these so I'm not sure if i got a deal or mot so I'm going to post pics and let you guy give me ideas of what it worth then I'll tell you how much i paid. It get delivered tomorrow at about 1:00pm so I can have more pics and info then.

I'm not even sure the year yet.

I'll give you 500 for it. Seriously though, that is the deal of the century! You can't touch a tree fiddy by me for less than 700, and 700 gets you a beater. Awesome score!

Check the frame for cracks. They are notorious for it.

i tried to zoom in on your pics....the motor seems to be a 85 so that's my guess.

but it's to hard to tell for sure from what i saw.

Look at the rear motor mount, left side of the bike, if the mount wraps around the down tube in that area, it's an 86, if the mount just looks to be just welded to that tube, it's an 85

That would be over $1,000 here pretty easy, I say you stole it! I would have paid $400 in a minute and let the wife cuss me as long as she wanted for a deal like that! Would have bought the big red too! Maybe I need to take a trip with the truck and trailer this summer to pick up a couple-three or so trikes!

Great find at a great price. Congrats. Give it the TLC it needs and bring her back to her original glory. Would love to see pics of it cleaned up.

Judging from the rear shot it's at least got an 85 swingarm. The 86 had a different brake setup.

I think I've said this before but, you can't get any better deals on a three wheeler than if you go to Indiana! This right here is case and point. I mean, I bought my T3 for $150 bucks in IN, and I've seen some great deals on the Michiana CL.

Clutch cable on right side of motor , 85 swinger , front rim is 85 also , so probly an 85

that was currently valued at about $200, even up for my Tecate.

But Indiana sucks so don't come here stealing our deals. You'll hate it here.:naughty: :naughty: :naughty:

OK, I have it home now. The 10th number on the vin is G. Is that the year?

I took off the fenders so I could get a better look and this thing has NOTHING missing. It needs a little cleaned and TLC but it is complet. If any you want me to take some detailed pics to see what may or may no be there, I'll do it. I'm a Kawie guy and I have had some hondas back on the day but not a 350X and I want to know what i have and what will have to be done to get it in great shape. Any help, advice and criticism is welcome.

^ More so than that, because there are about 4 frames made within the 2 years, there is the size of the motor mount bolts. The highest located bolt mounts on the earlier frame are 8mm diameter with a 12mm head, the updated frame got a 10mm bolt with a 14mm thread.

Thats just the frame were talking about, other things give it away.

Shock - Black knob 85, Gold knob 86
Swinger/caliper - 85 another linkage piece, 86 a clean looking and floating setup.
Motor - 85 small can chain tensioner with a clutch cable on the right side. 86 - longer cam chain tensioner with the cable on the left side, goes around the back of the engine...
Tripple clamps - 86 has a grey plastic cover or at least th threads for it on the lower tripple. 85 has nothing........

There are a ton of differences ^ those are just a few!!

OK, you all wanted more pics. I took pics from every angle i could think off. If there's any i misses, let me know and I'll snap some more. Remember, i am 350X illiterate. Had plenty of time riding them, jusy never owned or worked on them.

Here is more. The tires are basically brand new all the way around. i like the front but I don't care for the rear tires. I like an aggressive low profile like fast trekkers.

Is it just a matter or disassemble, clean up, polish off any rust, add a little paint and put her back to together to look good? Or do you guys see any other problems? The frame looks great. No cracks or anything.

The front fender is painted white for some reason. i can see where it is red underneathe but it's in good condition. I'd love to go with a black plastics theme on it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Also, all the skid plates are there and in good condition as well. I can tell it was riden but it wasn't beaten. An old farmer owned it.

if you are unsure of the year it is a 85 no doubt..also if you are do a dissasembly on it you should think about gusseting and reinforcing the frame the 85 are weak...heres a pick of the weak point mine was alot worse then most ive seen tho

it would be on the left side right above the swing arm bolt. it matches the picture from threewheelin-feelin bike. It cracks under hard riding, only on 85's....

See the motor mount furthest in the back and above the swingarm bolt?

Look at the bracket that welds to the frame and follow it all the way around. A large percentage of them have a hairline crack......

Everything on there appears to be 1985.

I just checked it over real good and there is no stress fractures or anything like that. the paint isn't even chiping where a fracture may be starting. So, I think i'm good there. How do i reinforce it to keep it good and strong?

I was just curious about the year so i make sure i buy the correct parts. I had no idea the 85 and 86 were as different as you guys are saying.
