Well... I went to do front pads on the 250r... that was fun lol

I removed the two caliper mount bolts but the rim was in the way... have to remove the wheel.

Removed the 4 10mm nuts on the left side and then cranked the axle out. After some wrestling I finally got the wheel out.

The pads that were in there were wasted, but that's not uncommon. What pissed me off is the wheel bearings were rusty and DRY... going to have to replace those.

I also noticed the rotor was backwards lol... the holes were going the wrong way as was the directional arrrow. Funny thing is; looks like it was this way for a LONG time due to the imprint of the hub!

Also noticed the lip of the rim has a slight bend in it... sure wish I could get a nice Douglas wheel to match the rear :wondering

Guess that was a rant? I dunno.

For me it was even worse, 85 250r. Wasted brake pads, very hard to get the 10mm nuts off, bolts holding on caliper very hard, had to use a 3' breaker bar to loosen the break the axle threads loose, seized caliper pin plugs, caliper pins came out with difficulty, the story continues..... Removed wheel, axle. I couldn't remove the axle from the hub, after some hitting it come out, the axle was seized to the collar, heat, heat, hit, hit and finally got everything seperate. Got new bearings/seals, all back together. Rode it twice after, forks lost compression, rebuilt them. Rode it 2-3 more times after, threads inside forks were gone and axle threads gone. $60 for heli-coil kit, find a big enough handle for it, something like $50 for a axle. Forgot, front rim was a tiny bit bent too. That sure was an expensive brake pad change!!!

Infact, almost everything about it was a PITA and harder/more expensive than should be. About the only thing that went good, was the swingarm bolt was modded for a grease fitting and it slid right out.

In the future, you can remove the caliper without removing the front axle/wheel. Just remove the lug nuts & slide the front wheel all the way to the right side.
