What do you guys think of this engine color?

Had a can of grill paint that just said black, so I gave it a shot and this is how it came out. I like it, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on it. Opinions?

IMO its not black enough, almost looks like a grey in the pic.

The color looks good for a low buck job. I've had good luck with the "grill" paint on OEM exhaust stuff. The silencers and pipes I've used it on are more for show though, and not run very much. It may not last very long with normal riding abuse, but is a lot more economical than a full powder coat job. Looks good to me. I think it'll look better after installed. A semi or gloss black might look a step closer to OEM, though. Just my 2 cents????? :beer

Yeah I definitely would have preferred a semi or full gloss black, but this motor came out of a first gen R, and I'm not painting it red, so it isn't gonna be a stock look anyway. It looks a little bit darker in person, but its still VERY gray. The motor is the main focal point on a bike, so I want to do it right. The rest of the bike is a metallic red/maroon color so I don't think it'll look too bad.

Thanks a lot Goat! You reminded me that I had a can of VHT clear. It isn't dry yet, but it looks really good. It may be a little grayer than if I used semi-gloss in the first place, but its glossy, and that all I really care about. Pic to come!

can't use it on the pipes on a four stroke...can use it on the block of a 2stroke.

Yeah it came out pretty good. The crappy picture quality doesn't do it justice. It would have come out better if I hadn't run out of paint on the initial coat, but its at least in spots where you don't notice it. I think its glossier than the shift lever I painted gloss black earlier.

Yeah the paint I used is good to 1200 degrees.lol If it gets that hot, then I've got serious problems:lol:

yes you dont use that paint on mufflers, mufflers tend to get hot faster

You have to use header/manifold or grill paint. I've always used VHT that is good to 1000-1200 degrees with no problems.
