What is the best way to check an axle for being straight/ true? Without taking it to a shop or something like that!

If it has any noticeable bend, you can take some jackstands and put them under the footpegs to lift the rear up, and take the wheels and hubs off. Put the engine in neutral and spin the axle, if theres a bend the tip of the axle will move up and down, if theres no bend itll spin fairly straight. If you want it really precise, take the rear axle out and set it on V-blocks. Take a run-out gauge and set the tip near the end of the axle, before where the hub splines are. If you have a manual, it should tell you how to do this along with pics and run-out limits.
