I picked these up on eBay for my 250r.

Should have them within a week.
Once I get them, I'll have a better idea what to do to them.
Just figured I'd see what you guys think.

IDT they are a bad thing.... BUT, you can't modify aluminum without a TIG welder...... So your stuck with them AS IS or you can hose clamp them and use sheetrock screws like most people would do!
Although they would be heavier, I'd make something up out of cold rolled or carbon steel that I could cut, mod and MIG weld.......

Aluminum can be stick welded. It's just not as pretty.

My buddy's shop is a walk-in advertisement for Miller Equipment.
Anything with the welding won't be an issue:D
I'm thinking I'll be able to cut the front of the nerfs, taking some width out.
Then make some front mounts that bolt up on the frame.
The mounts would have pegs that slide into the nerfs with say 2 bolts through.
We'll see how it works out. I will post with pics once it's all figured out.

Are you looking to set up for ice racing? Or any type of racing for that matter? If you are, then go for it. Sounds like your friend should be able to help you out on this. Otherwise, I'd say it's not worth the effort. Those things will piss you off if you are woods riding.
Just my 2 cents

Mainly for ice racing, though I may give flat track a try too, if I find some nearby tracks that allow ATC's.
The plan is to make them easily removable, but still stout.
We've made lotsa things work out nicely, when they were made for other things.
This will likely be no different.
Ahhh.......the beauty of being a gearhead:w00t:

Gleason allows trikes to race up there at their track.

Here are some pics of the nerfs mocked in place.
I think it's now a matter of measuring everything, checking clearance, and making mounts...........

I wonder if it would fly like a plane if I use a sheet of aluminum on each side instead of the nets:naughty:

It looks like you have some work ahead of you with those. Either you're going to have some helacious mounts or you're gonna have to shorten those nerfs up quite a bit.

Good call on moving them back, NINJA. :beer
I took the extensions off of the rear of them.
That allowed me to move them back, and behind the pipe.
This should make things much easier, and it'll work out much better if they do happen to bend.
At least they won't take the pipe out if I happen to eat the track.
I should have them done tomorrow, as long as all goes good, so I'll be posting pics shortly.

aint that the truth...I have a bar alluminum bar welded under the scion to prevent debris I run over from ripping of the plastic body kit in the rear.
it's welded with a...P5 rod I think, purely finishing stuff for steel...
it's all about that light touch. :w00t:

They are done.
It took a bit to make the brackets. The nerfs are easily removable, and the brackets were made to take 450R footpegs, solid mounted:w00t:
Syko.......I like what you did with those. I assume they were a set of ProPegs. They look good.
Here are the pics. I tried getting some pics of the brackets to give an idea of what was done. The nerfs are ProArmor, but I have no clue for what machine.

NICE fab work..... Good thing you have your bud with the Miller stuff!!
Looks very nice and clean...
Nice Fab work for sure...And your R is looking TIGHT!
Please dont take this the wrong way..I am not trying to be Mr. poopy pants here...
But Nerfs should actually come out dead even with the width of the rear tires, and almost up to the rear tire..
If the tire hangs out beyond the nerf, then you still run the risk of getting the rear tires tangled up with another ATV,and could still cause you guys to tangle...
Just my thoughts.

Thanks.......I hear what you're saying, as well.
I think they would be a little closer for width if I weren't 52 inches wide at the rear tires....:naughty:
The distance from the rear tires looks about the same as how Syko set his up.
These used to have an extension at the outer rear corner. I cut it off to pull them farther back.
If I need to, I suppose I could always shorten the extensions and put em back on.
We'll see how they work first, I think.
