My 225Dx project

i got a 1984 YTM 225 DX a few weeks ago from a guy off craigslist. said it had been sittin for a few years. Went and looked at it and was surprised i didnt realize these had electric start...He also put some nice big muddin tires on it....today i put some new gas in and oil, changed the spark plug, cleaned the air filter, and carb....and she fired just needs some more carb adjustments.....Is there anything else i should be doing to this so i dont hurt anything???

I have a couple 225dx's here they are a really nice trike, actually one of my favorites. Going by the decals yours looks to be a 1983, the first year. Nice looking trike you have there.:w00t:

Just for shits and giggles, you might want to do a compression check on it just make sure it's good. Maybe check the brake shoe life. I love those 225s that's gonna be my next trike. Nice find bro

i did a compression test when i looked at it at the guys house. Needed the brakes when i was unloading they seemed good...

83 side pannels and rear fenders but if it came stock with the thumb on it its an 84 the 83's had a twist do you know if the the thumb is stock?

Guy i got it from said it was an 84...Do the 83 and 84 have the same decals...Ill post a pic of the thumb throttle maybe you can tell if its stock or not

yea 83 and 84 have diff decals the thumb is a stocker but it dont mean it wasnt put on there because i know alot of peeps dont like twist

look behind the light on the front of the frame my 83 and 84 both have a white sticker thats says the year on the second line

Also when i picked this up the plastics and decals were in rough shape. the plastics are rough and have black stains on them....is here anyway to make these smooth and with a nice color without paint?

sand sand sand did it on my 85 z had about 1/8 in oxydation on them started with 140 and went all the way until 2000 wet sand but 4000 wet will give you the shine once you get oxy off

did u look at the sticker on the front?

Back to the thumb throttle thing. My 1983 225dx does have the twist throttle on it, but I could have bet that I heard they came with the thumb throttle in 1983, the twist throttle was an option?

there are a set on ebay for a black one but 70$ and they wouldnt look good on yellow because they are black and gold i dont know af any others tho

yeah im thinking it originally came with thumb but twist was a yamaha dealer option but dont quote me on this idk lol
