View Full Version : rotor puller/metric trick?

i was just reading that ppl use a metric nut to pull the rotor out i was just wondering how this works and is it possible for a 1981 honda atc200 and what EXACTLY i need. thanks in advance :TrikesOwn just gotta get my damn timing chain on..

as you are calling it a rotor, it is realy called a flywheel puller. if you you to e-bay and look under 250r you will find the real tool for pulling the flywheel off. i think it was 12 bucks plus shipping it will work on 185,200,250r and more, i tried other ways but found this works great. if you need more info e-mail me .hope this helps you. good luck vegaman- al

Don't bother buying a puller. Go to your local hardware or farm store and they sell a bolt that will thread right in to the end of your fly wheel. Just turn it in untill it hits the crank and pops your flywheel off. Oh and when i did this the bolt was only like 5 bucks. Expensive for a bolt, but a lot cheaper than a puller. I'm not sure what exactly the size is, maybe something like a 12mm fine thread?

Not all machines use the same style puller. The 200 requires a special puller so your choice here will not work.

Really? I used the bolt as a puller for an 84 200x, and on an 83 xl 200. Were the fly wheels diferent in the earlier years or something?

Yes the 200x is different than the atc200. The atc200 crankshaft actually uses a nut to hold it on, where as the 200x uses a bolt. Very different.

Ahhh thanks for the correction. Sorry about that, all the 200 motors I've worked on used a bolt to hold them on, i assumed those did as well.
