Hello all i just purchased a 1985ytm200 chain drive for a steal ($100) but it dosent run . The idiot i got it from said it needed a cdi box and it would run fine . well i checked for spark straight out of the stator , the lighting coil seems be working but nothing from the source coil . anyway i take it all apart to take the stator out well i start noticeing a gas smell coming from the side of the engine so i investigate and find that crankcase has about a half gallon of gas in it . i did notice that the crank seal is very fubar 'ed pretty much not there . so thats on order via bikebandit .
So could there be any other cause for the gas in the oil ???
Should i still replace the source coil?
thanks

might as well since you got it torn apart

You could have a float sticking and the gas just runs out of the carb and down the intake and leaks down past the cylinder and rings. Or the guy just kept dumping gas down the sparkplug hole trying to fire the trike figuring the carb didn't work.

i think im going to let it dry out then put it back together with out putting oil or gas to it and se if the source coil wasnt just wet with gas and oil .

Yes I have had A bike do this to me before. The float on the carb gets stuck and it poors gas in to the crankcase. pull out spark plug and turn engine over if it shoots gas out I would say its your carb.

it had been sitting for a couple of months , the gas tank was empty and the fuel line is missing so all the gas had already leaked into the crankcase by the time i purchased it . im going to pull the carb apart and go through it since im waiting for the seal and gasket .
off topic but what do you guys think when compareing the ytm200 to the atc200s????

Rebuild the carb sounds like your needle/float is stickin allowing fuel to go into the crankcase.

does the gas in crankcase smell old? i would drain all that crap out and kinda let the gas evaporate- i think it is your carb gettn stuck open, u can check your compression to make sure it isnt bad piston rings--- all in all be sure to turn off your gas when you are dont riding ;)

I haven't checked Compression. I have re-built the Top-End So I figure it's not that.

same as i told the other guy:
blow by meaning your piston rings are so worn, your getting blow by when it fires off some of the fuel is gettign blown into the crank case. no other way.
well ....., maybe 1 more (maybe). but it's extremely uncommon and like 1 in a few hundred cases type of thing. if your carb is in such bad shape, and your leaking tons of fuel and it leaks into the air filter box. there's a vent hose that goes from the case to the filter box for ventelation. fuel then can travel down that hose and into the case, but again not all are setup thsi way, and it's VERY rear. in many years only seen it 2 times.

mine has the little box and hose leading into the crankcase like you just mentioned , and it has tons of compression havnt tested to se exactley what it has but its a lot more than my freshly rebuilt 200s .

Don't forget to change your oil.

ok i put everything back together (dry) of course and the same thing is happening . the lighting coil (seperate yellow wire not in harness) lights my test light up when its pulled over but none of the 4 wires in the harness are making the light light up . does that mean the source coils is bad ? just want to make sure that im testing it properly before i buy a new one .

If you have power to it,. One sounds like a ground wire. two does the power flucuate?Beets

i have the harness coming from the stator unplugged from the rest of the wiring to the bike . i have been testing it that way ,pulling the engine over and probeing each of the 4 terminals is that the way to check the stator ? if not somebody please enlighten me . thanks
