Do any of you guys know if a 1985 Trx125 motor will fit in my 1985 125m? I know i will loose my Hi-Low range, but will it bolt in and will I have to change my wiring harness to one for the Trx motor? also do they use the same pull starter? I found one locally cheap here is the pics

Derek,
I would say as long as it is a horizontal 125 it should fit, just check the electrical plugs, the recoil is the same between the two, I just checked the part numbers by microfische onlineBut if you can try it out first thats the best way. All of the components in the recoil have the same part numbers between the two but the complete assembly part number is different--could be due to verbage on the cover plate mabey, but it should fit. You'll lose the low range in the gear box it looks like, but still have the high range.
What's wrong with your old motor--is the transmission good-- I'm looking for a decent trans for mine. If you'd like to part with it let me know I'd be interested in it. Or if your not interested in the trx motor I might be, I don't care too much about the low range. I'm not sure if the attachment went or not it was just the part # listings between the two recoil assemblies.

Racer,
Thanks for your help I completely forgot all about checking part #'s. As for the motor that is in my 125 now the tranny is good, it seems to shift from high to low smoothly and i had it running on starting fluid once and it went into gear no problems and seems to go into all gears according to the indicator. The shifter moves smoothly. I'm 99.9% sure the bottom end is good but it has about 5 pounds of compression and will no longer start on starting fluid. Oh yea and the stator and electrical are good on it too. I will have to check the starter motor tomorrow for you. If your interested and I end up picking up this Trx motor this weekend ill let it go dirt cheap minus the pull start.

Thanks Derek,
I have my recoil so thats no problem. Hopefully you don't mind shipping it. But we can work out those details later on. Good luck with the TRX motor. The top end is mint on mine, I just wasn't the easiest on it when I was a kid, now I'd like to restore it to a good working condition so that my son can learn to ride a trike on the one that I learned on!

Racer,
I feel like i wasted your time and im sorry if i did. I emailed the guy about the motor he told me it was sold. I called him from my friends phone so he did not know it was me and said he still had it and he hung up on me. He removed his ads on craigslist i emailed him again and explained that i needed the motor and i will buy it if he was serious about selling it but i guess he was not. So I apologize since i am going to rebuild the motor i have and not sell it.
