Just got my 86Z ported/polished and the head milled down. Basically had the Phase II wrench report mod done. I keep hearing the stock carb is junk. What is a good carb/filter combination. PWK 38 and a K&N in the box maybe?

A 38 is always a good choice, and a PWK seems to be the one of choice. I ditched the airbox on my last Z and used a Pod clamp on filter, I swear I gained 2-3 hp, and criper throttle response just by doing that and adjusting the main and needle appropriately.

PWK or PWM and a K&N with an outwear. Cant go wrong with Keihin

I like the 39pwk with a K&N in the stock airbox with no lid. It's nice to know the air filter is out of the way of sand, water or mud.

yeah if you do ANY trail riding you want an air box! ask DEEPA or you have a direct route for water to flow right to your jug!! not good my 2c but hey if you run in sand or mx all the time RUN IT no worries!

I think I run the K&N in the box with no lid and the PWK 38. Seems to be the consensus. Thanks for the info fellows.

I'm a little behind whats the stock carb and how do you know if you have one or if it's been replaced somewhere in it's life? Is there numbers on it that you can tell what it is? Thanks

Got a mikuni 38 for my z but by what i see in this thread im not sure too keep it, hes still new. But not sure about needle and jet to put in the pwk those keihin are all different . My triz have the wrench report ph 2 mod done.
So is there a good difference between the pwk and mikuni? Should i sell back the mikuni 38 flat that i bough for a pwk flat 38mm ?
