A year and a half ago my dad gave me the Yamaha that I had tortured for so many years, and finally I can show that I have made some progress. You can probably tell which is before and which is after. Prior to, her future was gloomy, she had minimal compression, was capable of burning 70W racing oil (looked like a mosquito fogger going down the road), all three rims were severely warped from multiple wrecks, the entire headlight assembly was smashed from the final wreck (tree at around 10-15mph?, still drove her home though), hubs were warped, clutch plates were shot, plastics were horribly oxidized (she had never been inside since 1984), the seat was totally shot and lastly the carb needed to be rebuilt. Oh, forgot that almost every chassis bearing pretty much didn't exist anymore.
After moving to San Diego I finally had the opportunity to give back to the trike that had given so much. Ripped her apart to the frame, and started on the engine. As a testiment to Yamaha, when I cracked open the block, she was clean as a whistle. This is after the oil rarely being changed, no air filter and being floated in a few creeks. No major repairs were needed to the engine minus new rings and clutch plates. I ended up buying a second trike to make this one whole, from which I pretty much only used the frame, chassis, seat. I'm not going into many more details, as this could end up pretty long. Put her back together with some minor set backs and started cleaning the plastics up (which still aren't all the way done, 'cept for the front fender). And here we sit at the current results.
By the by, she runs like a champ. Except for some annoying charging/lighting issues that are getting attention. Gonna keep going for an era gone and to show some 4 wheeled folks what an ATC is about.
