On one of my big reds the shifter doesnt pop back when shifting(especially down shifting). How hard is it to replace the shifter spring? It doesnt look to hard in the manual, but I have never replaced on before. Where would I beable to get one? Does Honda still make this part? Any idea on a part number?

The pin probably broke or the shifter shaft itself may be bad. Easily fixed with just removing the outer covers. I may have any parts you may need as well as the manual. Shoot me a PM if you need anything.

I had a 85 sx that had the same problem. There is a little pin inside the cover that was broke. I got a new one from my Honda dealer. I can get a part # tomorrow if you need it.

I really don't see how that would work? Did you use a really long bolt and just bottom it out in the threads?

i used a bolt and some thread locker to keep it in place and used a nut on the other end

If Todd don't have the parts, I know I do. I have everything but the left side cover gasket ( might even have that too.
99% of the time the left side cover is the only cover you neeed to remove to fix this problem.

Todd, I have made a quick pin before to get a friend back riding. I could show you one. :lol

Here is a picture and part # of the part that I replaced. In the picture the number is 21 located in the upper right. The part number is 24652-HAO-000 That is a honda number right from my parts manual. Hope this is what you need. As I mentioned earlier I got this part from my Honda dealer
