Well I spent a few hours today calling around the Nation and every single supplier said that the Cheng Shin c826 tires are no longer being manufactured. I called about 15 places, including Nac's in NY, and a few large warehouses. Nac's even took my order, and I thought I was in, then they called back to tell me the bad news. Most places showed them in stock on their web-site, but when I called, they weren't. Some guys even claimed to have them, I made them double check, then they were like, oh no we don't, and the replacement is the c829. Which I think is a roundish tire, not what I want.
I hope this isn't true, and it's all just some conspiracy to keep me from getting a pair of these tires. I wrote to the manufacture in China, don't know when or if I will get a response.
In the mean time, I need a pair of c826 18x9-50-8 tires. I expect to be on the ice in a week or so. Chime in if you know anything.

Been ordering sets all winter long from Parts unlimited. Did you check magicracing.com? They sell them already on rims, already studded, pretty cheap.
Not sure why they would discontinue the best ice tire ever built. Hmmm. I have a couple of good friends at Polaris (were a top 50 dealer in the us) and I know Daryl Rath uses C826 exclusively on ice. Thats really odd. Maybe there just out of stock for winter time. This is peak season for selling the C826

Riverrat and I were discussing this in PM's. Hopefully it isn't true. It can be really difficult to get them this time of year and its seems plain stupid of them to stop making them all together. I just remembered I know a guy that works at a bike shop over in Spring Valley that is a Parts Unlimited distributor. I sent an email to him tonight and he's gonna let me know what he finds out.

Yes, magicracing was one of the places I called, and they said the same thing.

I was going to say the same thing about majic racing. When I tried to order them a few weeks ago. out of stock is what the website says, so who knows.
I ened up getting 18" fast trekkers off ebay for a fraction of the cost.

Cheng Shin has been bought out. This was told to me by the area rep from Parts unlimited. The C826 has been discontinued. Those of you that bought these for this years Ice Racing are lucky. They are gone now...

now thats some bad news......... Wonder if someone will bring back a replica? It was gold standard ice tire for so many years. I could see Duro making a similar tire to the C826 in the future. They seem to cater to the old race tire designs more than most.

WOW!! Thats F'd up!! I just bought my first set.... Maybe I shouldn't stud them!!
What on earth would cause them to discontinue them?? There THE most popular ice racing tire aren't they??

I called Dennis Kirk, tried through my local dealer and they are gone.......What a bummer. Man, in less that a week we have found out about the liquid R front dunlop being discontinued and now the c826. They had a retail of $36 bucks in Dennis Kirk for the 18-9.5-8 which is still on their web site. These will have HUGE value in coming years if you have NOS sets. Especially in the 18" size....

SOB! That figures, I sold a set on ebay a month ago or so that were mounted and studded with about 6 races on them total for around $85 to someone on the east coast. They got a hell of a deal, ebay has sucked for me lately! Was it anyone here that got em?

Placed an order at JC motors. It actually let me order. I called them and they said there SCARCE. He is checking his warehouses and will call me back. I am hoping i snag a set for years to come.

They told me they were out.
I can get a set of 20" tires for 10"rims. But that doesn't really help.
JohnR suggested another tire, what would you guys run if we can't get these anymore?

First we need to know for sure if Cheng Chin was bought out, went bankrupt, or simply discontinued the C826. Best case IMO, is that they were bought out and some of the tires will be remade under a new name.........There really is no other tire like it, with it's hard compound, square profile, and high count of non-dimpled knobbies.

sorry to hear about your tires guys
but I have a question....since you gents are putting screws into the tire....could you use a flat style tire with an extremly stiff sidewall?
for example...what if you studded a duro scorcher? or is the compound much to soft?
seems like if you could find a decent blank tire, you could stud in whatever pattern you wished.
I'm prolly really off base here.

So after much calling, talking, etc... I believe my REP for PU was full of crap. I talked to several parts houses. Apparently everyone is just out of stock right now. Everyone has simply said that these tires sell out fast in the winter... Guys at Magic Racing said no way in hell they'd be discontinued. They must just be popular this year. I will be calling my Tucker Rocky and Western Powersports Reps Monday.

I was told the cheng shin tires have the hardest rubber, and will hold the studs better than any other tire.

Hmmmmmm, I don't think I'm gonna stud mine just yet..... They might be worth double there cost very soon!!:D
All joking aside, this is my 1st year even thinking about ice racing. And from every single thing I read, that tire was the number one choice of many!! Doesn't make any sense top me, it will have to get a new name and continue..... Anyone check on any of the other tires?? I mean, there had to be more if this one got the AX!

you could always grind the grips off of a trailpro and stud it... lol

I think the studs would wear faster then the tire!!
I hope these tires arent discontinued, I was planning on buying a set for my 250r when the ones on it now get too worn.

Cheng Shins website is still up, but I can't read it, it's all in $#%@#$%@#%@#$ Chinese.
Anyway, I think I found the last 3 tires in all of America, and they are on the way. I called about 40 places.

01-27-2009, 09:48 PM
Unless someone posts different, these could possibly be the last set of 826's in America. I got a third tire as a spare....off.....ebay, lol.
The tires were not labeled correctly, so anyone doing a normal human search would not find them.
Funny, I met a guy on the lake here who had found them also, and when he went to buy them, I had already got them.
I think companies tell us that Cheng Shin went out of business so that we will buy another tire, so let's wait and see what happens later this year.
Oh, yes I am studding them.

I know more tomorrow when I speak with Maxxis Ed. I will be sure to post my findings. If not I will be sure to raid the overseas plants of all there C826's

Unless Maxxis is completely stupid I'd say they would start pumping out the 826 again before next fall. It is the only tire for ice racing and they must sell a ton of them so I can't see why they would stop making them. Oh, and there are some other new 826's floating around riverrat, they just aren't for sale. :D

Then really what's the point? LOL.
It's just to get people jealous, I know.
I could use one more for the orphan I got. And a back up set.
I ain't to worried anyway, it's not like I am racing for competition, or money, just bragging rights I guess, and my machine, or my skill is a long way from being up to par I am sure. One of those other tires you mention would do me just fine, and I can have my drug
(ice racing).

RUMOR TO REST...
Spoke with Scott Perkins of MAXXIS International specialty sales division via telephone this morning. CHENG SHEN is MAXXIS parent company. Thats right they own MAXXIS. The C826 is not a tire that everyone stocks. Its not even on there radar as being a POPULAR tire. Therefore not many are imported into the USA. I inquired about it being a discontinued item. He stomped that and said the only recent tires to be discontinued were the CHENG SHEN D.O.T. tires for motorcycles.
The C826 IS NOT DISCONTINUED, Merely out of stock. He did state it could take up to 2 months to restock this into the USA.

This makes perfect sense to me. What's so funny is all the different responses I got from calling the 40+ stores that say they have them across the U.S. They told me everything from there out of stock, to Cheng Shin has been shut down by the Chinese EPA.
Cheng Shin probably only makes one run of these tires per year, in the Summer, and everyone stocks them then. Places like Parts Unlimited supply half the stores selling them, and when they run out, they all are out. They won't stock too many because if the ice season is crappy (thanks global warming) then they have to hold them for 2 years, and they lose money.
Lesson here, get your ice stuff in the summer. I can't even find kold cutter screws right now, so I had to settle for gold screws. I only searched a few places, but I am sure they will be hard to get.
