i there a certain kind of engine oil to use on a tri-z i changed it today and used regular 10w40 and now it won't shift through all the gears any help would be greatly appreciated also what is the mix ratio on this trike right now it has 24:1 but i heard the newer oils you can run a higher mix thanx in advance

Sounds like you might have an internal problem. I run Valvoline 10W30 in my tranny with no problems at all. For oil, I recommend Yamalube at 32:1. Works great in my Z. Good luck!

i just thought of something when i went to pull the drain plug it was only in half way when i put it back in i tightened it all the way could this make any difference or is this just a stupid thought

sounds crazy....but who knows. Give it a try. With the engine off, can you shift it through all gears? Don't even pull the clutch, just take your hand and shift it up, keep shifitng up through all gears and see what happens.

thats wierd i backed off the drain plug shifts fine now with it tightened all the way it would only go into 1st and 2nd

someone replaced the stock drain bolt with a longer one and this new bolt when threaded in all the way is hitting the shifing drum. you need to get a shorter drain bolt

Sounds like you might have just hit the nail on the head MR ATC...but just for spite, how long is your drain plug bolt?

He hit the nail right on the head with this one. How do I know, cuz I just cracked my first case tonight and learned all about that!!! Go me :-P
