I just picked up a Suzuki alt 50 it has spark and compression but won't run, I'm thinking it has the wrong plug in it, it has a splitfire type plug in there now, does anyone know what the plug should be. thanks!

According to my service manual, you need the following:

NGK BP4H or NIPPON DENSO W14FP
NGK BP4RH (Canada)

It doesn't say why resistor plugs are recommended in Canada.

Thanks a bunch, Are these bikes pretty dependable?

No problem.

I don't know how dependable they are. I recently purchased one for the kids, but they're still too young for it. It sure looks flimsy (and tiny!) next to the ATC 70.

It will pull me down the street at a pretty good clip, but I look ridiculous on it and I don't think that it will put up with that amount of abuse for very long.

Have fun!

What kind of tranny is in there?

Single-speed, centrifugal clutch. Just push the throttle lever and go.

Hmmm, I installed new plug still won't run, I have fuel spark, any Ideas???? Won't even pop, seems like I have plenty of compression.

With fuel, spark, and compression, you should get some sort of response. The ALT 50 has a vacuum operated petcock. Are you sure that it is working? As a test, you can try turning the petcock to the "Pri" (prime) position to ensure that gas is getting to the carburetor.

I just went back to the manual to see how much compression you should have, and I just cannot find any reference to it. Maybe someone with a newer LT 50 or JR 50 manual could help out?

Good luck!
