Tire leaking at the bead, what are my options?

I put some old Holeshots one a set of steel rims so I can stud them. They leak at the bead, what can I do? Is there a bead sealer or something I can use? I am looking for cheap. They don’t have to hold air forever, just a few races at a time. :TrikesOwn

Did you wire brush the wheel and put a little liquid soap around it?

i always put a bead of 100% silicone on the wheel where it seals, then reseat the tires

grease, silicone, liquid nails. or i know carquest has some bead sealer. not sure on the price but it works well. napa also carries it but its around 18.00 a tub.

Well for starters i would never mount a tire to a chitty bead..:crazy: your just askin for a leak. Clean it of all rust and or debris first and paint it. nice clean best way to get it sealed.. now if you are using some old tires that may not have the greatest bead lip, mount em with some tire patch sealer or some silicone. just dont mount em with a super stong glue or something compareable to permanent if you plan on takeing them off ever.. I dont recommend grease due to the tire slipping on the rim and then could cause another leak. Is pretty cut and dry.. if ya got a leak seal it with some thing that will hold but use something that you can take off if needed.. :beer

Decent thoughts here, but I wouldn't use grease either and soap only seals so much....

I like the person that in another post suggested Slime only on the bead sealing area. I'm gonna give that a shot myself!

Is bead sealer the stuff that glues the tire to the rim making it soooo hard to remove later? I have had tires that have been glued to the rims with thick black stuff before, that sucked.
