i bought a 40 because i do alot of tight trail riding. do you think i'll notice a difference in top end from the 42?

How tall are your rear tires? You should gain a little top end.

There were some very nice new 40 tooths on ebay .

i have 20" holeshots if you look at my video it tops out really quick, like 6-8 seconds. atleast i'm 240lbs to keep the tire on the ground

My '85 came to me with 20" Holeshots(not my favorite 3-wheeler tire) and geared 15/42. 1st -4th gears are a tad high, but I still want more 5th gear...lol

Mines likely going to 18" tires and a smaller rear sprocket when I score something else to ride in the woods.

That's a gal-dang good deal.

I buy all mine from Sprocket Specialists. No BS.
