As it is today i need to visit my fathers friend that have a hydraulic press with a hook attached to it, work good for breaking the bead but have looked into something so i can do it at home.

Found this when looking at some old hondaline accessories:

Anyone tried the old honda original beadbreaker?
Doubt it will be possible to get hold of but maybe can be build if it works good and someone have one and could provide some measaurements.

Also found this tool that looks very effective, anyone out there that have tried one?

Or should i keep taking the wheel to the hydraulic press?

I have one of those honda kits still in the original box. The only problem is I don't have the piece to do 8" wheels. I guess I'm going to have to make one. I don't think I have all those pieces like is shown in the picture though. I will have to go double check what all I have. The instructions are kind of complex.

this is what I'm looking at getting.

but still it only costs me $5 a tire to get one removed and another mounted.

Somebody sold one of those bead breakers on 3w.org a while back I think. It went quick in the forums. I take mine to my local farm store and they take atv tires off for $4.

You have a good memory because that is where I got my bead breaker kit from.

My father said that he would break the bead on car tires with a bumper jack. He layed the tire on its side and put the bottom of the jack against the rim and he would jack against the bottom of the car, Using the weight of the car to break the bead. I never tried it on an ATV tire.

I distinctly remember it because I had just bought a cheapie Harbor Freight tire changer for the same price I could have bought the Honda one for.

Thanks for the post, Oscar. I thinks I'monna try that $58 model they've got. Looks pretty cool. I wonder what they mean by "Some ATV tires" though.

K'know, after looking at that thing a little more, I'm not sure that thing would break a trike tire bead. It just doesn't look big enough. I've driven my truck over tires trying to break the bead and they just wouldn't come off. How can that little handle be enough leverage to break a bead? Has anyone tried one of these?

well it says it doesn't do 6-ply stuff, but maybe they mean old rusted on 6ply tires is my guess. yea i'm going to get me one too.

I've got that one John, your welcome to play with it!! I honestly believe some beads are TOO tough, and the backhoe bucket has helped with those puppies... Nothing beats a 2000$ tire machine though :(

I think I bought the bead breaking attachment also, I've got it somewhere!!

EDIT - I shouldn't say "that one"........... I have a similar one that cost about the same so give it a whirl if you like.....
