I'm in the process of getting a 70 running. It had no compression at all so I pulled the head. The intake valve was stuck and very worn / sharp. The top ring was broken and the oil ring was stuck. So I made an order to dr atv and got a top end gasket set, intake valve and rings.
I got my parts today. On dr atv's site it says Vesrah top end sets come with valve seal, my kit has none. This is the first 70 I've been in to so I'm not familiar with them. So either that's just a generic description and you get them if your application needs them (my engine had them) or I'm just gonna have to get them else where. I guess from Honda? That's gotta be pricey, suggestions? But I do need them correct? Hey it's a small engine and they are damn near just o-rings so who knows. Almost thought about using o-rings. lol.
Next my kit came with 5 o-rings. Two are for valve covers, one goes on each side of the jug for a seal for the oil return port. And I can't figure out the last one. Yes I have a Clymer manual but it covers like 20 models from 1965 on, so it's not detailed in this manner. It's smaller than the o-rings for the oil return port. I'm guessing it's possibly for the pressure port but there is only one o-ring, does the head gasket seal the pressure port with out o-rings? I can see where the oil comes out of the bottom end next to a head stud. There is a cut out in the jug kinda shaped like a triangle right next to a stud hole, do I just wedge the o-ring in that triangle hole or what? lol.
And lastly I noticed the flywheel key is sheared off clean, I tried getting it out with a chisel with no luck, any tips on those?

EDIT: I just looked at the valve seals again and there is only one on the exaust which makes no sense since the intake is gonna have vacuum on it but there is no where to even put on one the intake valve. And the exhaust actually had no seal at all (I think it fell apart), but I do have some weird metal thing and I don't remember how it goes. I think the seal is just an o-ring. Which way does the metal peice go? Lip or or lip down and does the o-ring go on top or between the metal piece and head? And can I just grab an O-ring?

I dont know how much help I will be since I'm just getting started in these myself. But I do know that the exhaust side of the valve has the seal. The intake does not have one. The extra o ring you have sorry but I had one also and I didnt use it because I couldnt figure it out either. But hopefully that helped a little

Ok, look at this schematic. Number 7 is the larger o-rings. One goes on each side of the jug and seals the oil return port. Number 8 I am not sure on. I was thinking it went between the jug and bottom end at the oil supply hole but I'd have to wedge it into a triangle area in the jug. But from the looks of it, it actually goes in with the head gasket?
And I figured out which way the valve seal retainer goes and the order. Is the valve seal just an o-ring or I need the actual seal?
If you look at the base gasket you can see how one of the stud holes is a rectangle / triangle shape, that has the oil return port next to it so I was gonna wedge the o-ring in there. lol. But it looks like it goes in with the head gasket. You can also see that larger hole in the bottom of the base gasket, the larger o-rings (#7) go on each side of the jug at that hole. Where does #8 go?
