I was looking on craigslist today and found a listing intitled Honda 3 wheeler+parts $25. I called the guy and said hold it i'll be right there. He said the previous owner of the property left it and kept saying he'd come get it along with a bunch of other crap, but never did, so he sold and trashed it all. Antway he knew nohing about it and thought it was locked up. After getting it home i realized the kicker was on backwards and he was trying to kick it backward. The tank scoops where also on the wrong sides and the tires aired right up and seem to be holding. It needs alot of parts but my daughter and i are gonna tear it done completely and build it from the ground up. So if anyone has 86-87 200x parts for sale cheap, pm me.

That is a killer deal.:w00t: When you get it running and ridable you'll love it. I have a nice 1986 and am in the middle of building a second. They are definately a little hard to find parts for, but are worth it. Keep us updated.

I cant believe you paid $25 for that. Around my area people would be asking
$700 even if it was locked up.

I didn't even try to start it but, it has good compression. We pulled the engine tonight and will be tearing it down tomorrow and inspecting everything.
Did the 86 have a key switch or just 87? What other than decals where different between 86 & 87?

dirtface
01-13-2009, 06:30 AM
Only the '87 had a keyswitch. I know the late '86 and the '87 had a bigger kicker shaft, the 1986 had a silver swingarm and the 1987 had a red one. Other than that, I can't think of any other differences. If there is, others will chime in.:w00t:

I feel bad for the last owner of it. I know some landlords are A Holes. I just hope the guy really was given a chance for HIS 3 wheeler. Get the reg card? Maybe the guy would buy it back for a fair price if it was "HIS BABY"!
Otherwise, sweeet deal.

By the way this thing was put together, he doesn't deserve to own a bicycle much less a honda.

Any idea why it has a 5 bolt rear sprocket and hub? It looks like a 85 sprocket and hub. Will 250r sprocket hub fit my axle? I already bought a new sprocket set and with this set up its not gonna work.

I've been told that the 85 200X axle can be made to work, that might be whats in there. Can you take any close up pics of the axle and related parts and there fitment??

What specifically are you looking for pics of? I can get whatever you need tonight from my '87 X.

ERIC, sorry for the delay...

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh220/Dirtcrasher/ERIC86200Xaxle.jpg

There are 34 splines and 4 mounting points for the sprocket.....

The splines are Appx 34.4MM or 1.350" Outside diameter

The sprocket mounts towards the carrier and is nearly flush when mounted with where the oil seal journal buries into the carrier.

I think the 85 may work just fine, might require some shimming?? And the stock 86 200X is 38 teeth, I'm not sure about the stock 85 200X but it could go a tooth or so either way if you messed with the front sprocket.

I think thats the issue with the 84R axle swap, they may come with a 40 tooth stock ?? and I get them made at Sprocket Specialists down to a 36 tooth fr the durablue axle.

I can take more measurements for you, whatever you need but yours is definitely a 83/85 200X axle and I hope you can make it work as these 86200X axles are harder to get than the 85 200X or even the stock 84 250R axle.

Hope this helps.....

Thanks DC! The 85 has a splined sleeve over the axle and then the hub goes over it. Anyone know if that sleeve is removable?

^ your welcome....

Yes it does come off but man oh man does it come off hard! I had to heat the hell out of the one I did and press it out. At that point, you've rounded or flattened crap off that you didn't want to - it's really hard.

Honestly, I didn't read all of this topic - but I'm guessing you can't get the 85 stuff to line up for you? If so, and you can't find a decent 86 200X axle, I'd just be sure to take a real good look at all the measurements before I dove into it. It's possible to ruin both hubs and axles trying to change them around.

Eric, I might have an UGLY but good axle for you. I really don't like to sell my parts....... but I won't run it unless I have to and now I have a durable too. It may work great for your needs, let me check it out and see but I believe all the splines and threads are fine. It just has pipe wrench marks on it and rust...... If it's what I think it is I'd sell it for 50$ plus shipping.

No pressure, I'm a hoarder as everyone knows :D but if you want me to check it out I will.

Dirtcrasher
03-13-2009, 08:56 PM
I never thought the 85 axle would work but someone posted it up a few months ago....

If you hadn't bought new 86X sprockets, would everything have lined up using the 85 200X axle??

Just curious as this opens up yet another door for the 86/87 axle issues and if that fits, then the 82R axle fits too.

Erics350x
03-13-2009, 09:11 PM
Im gonna try and put the 85 sprocket on in the morning. I think it will work though. It was a very tifgt fit getting the brake hub in the carrier seal. I got my carrier from deathman and he was running a R axle in it with very slight mods to the carrier in the adjustment area.

Dirtcrasher
03-13-2009, 09:34 PM
I wonder if the OD of that brake hub journal is off by a MM or 2?? IDK if I gave you that measurement?

Erics350x
05-22-2009, 06:30 PM
Just for clarity, the 83-85 rear axle with brake hub and sprocket/ hub works great.
I also found that the Kawasaki Mojave kick start lever works great. Its a nice fit and everything! You just can't slide it back as far as it could go on the shaft or it'll rub. Though it does go all the way on the shaft. So, all of you that think the 86 kicker is worth a bunch, your stock just fell.

I finally got the 200x out and got it to a point of being driven. Man, riding the 86 was a trip back in time! I went back to being 13 years old by the time i hit 3rd gear. I almost want to get rid of my 350x stuff and keep this for myself.

I still need to get a few misc parts and figure out my headlight problem. I installed a 350x light setup for now and when i rev'd it up high it blew a buld and both lights went out. The low beams wont work also? I'm pretty sure the bulbs blew because of a bad regulator but, any idea on why the lows wouldn't work?
