225 lighting!!!

the lights on my 225 or real dim almost not on at all at idle and brighten up when you rev it up i have seen this on a system with no battery like my blaster but not on a electrical system with a battery is this normal 4 a 225dx or is there a problem some where i have only had this trike 4 about a 6 weeks now and having a blast in the unpredictable indiana lake affect snow about 6 in on the ground now

I have three 225dx's here, a battery will fix the bright and dim thing.

it has a brand new ytx14ah-bs battery in it it is a maintence free up grade battery from the stock yb14a-a1

Hook a voltmeter to the battery. Maybe the charging system is not working properly.

does the electris start work? If not you may have a blown fuse and this would cause the voltage fluxuation ( sp? ) while running.

I'm just trying to find out if this is common on the 225 or not everything is working fine but the lights

IT is supposed to be that way... the lights operate independently of the battery / voltage regulated part of the system on the 225DX... just like on a bike with no battery. Mine does the same thing and the manual confirms it.

No problem, I thought the same thing when I got my 225... I was used to Hondas, on which the lights do run off the regulated circuit and stay constant brightness.

Although it is fine like it is, you can make the lights on your 225 stay brighter by adding a universal 12v regulator to the light circuit though. DennisKirk.com sells them for less than 20 bucks.

thanks i think i will leave the lighting alone now that i now it is normal. but i am having another problem it is shifting hard you have to really pull up hard on the shifter is this normal 4 the 225 or should i start a new thread to get some answers?????????????

Might start that new thread... the ones I have ridden shift rather easy. A couple of things to check though. Check to see if the shifter lever itself is hitting the engine case. If the shifter has ever been bent, then bent back into place, it could be hitting under there. If you have to do any bending on it, take the lever off the bike, you don't want to break the shaft by prying on the shifter.

If that looks ok, check your auto-clutch adjustment.

i dont have a battery on my 225dx, and the headlight shines bright at idle- i thought that was normal... shows what i know lol

i took the battery out of my 225 and it still is doing it but i am told it is normal
