HELP!! I just bought an '85 250SX the other day (my first trike) and now it doesn't want to stay running. The choke cable was just sticking the other night, now it's completely frozen. Is this common on these? I was told it was by some local guy. The electric start doesn't work, so I have to kick it over for now. I tried jumping the starter relay, but nothing happens. The battery voltage was only a little over 11 volts, but the starter should still try to engage. I managed to get it running with ether. I had to work the throttle for a few minutes to keep it running. After it started to warm up, it would idle on its own. While it was idling, getting warm, I figured I would put a new fuse in the fuseholder by the battery. I noticed it was blown the other night. I'm a little confused as to how it runs at all with this fuse blown. I have the wiring diagram, I'll have to look at it. While I was opening the fuseholder, it just died. I've noticed this has happened a few other times. I put in a new 15A fuse and restarted it. I pulled out of my driveway and got about 50 feet when it started to sputter and then died. I noticed that the headlight and taillight were very dimly lit after it shutdown. I tried kicking it over, but it wouldn't start, so I had to push it back to my garage. I checked the battery voltage with the fuse in and only had 4 volts! Something is really drawing some juice from the battery! I removed the fuse figuring that caused the problem. I got it to restart and stay running, but when I went to ride it again, the same thing happened. Now it only seems to want to run for a couple of minutes and then it dies. It only seems to restart if you wait a minute or 2. Something caused that fuse to blow and I'm thinking that I fried something putting that new fuse in. I was really looking forward to riding it in the snow that we're getting today! I'm f!@#ing pissed! Anyone have any experience with the electrical system on these? PLEASE HELP!

the choke cable coudl be frozen up and the carb may need a rebuild. most of the issues I personally run into on these old trikes is they need a carb rebuild and cable replacements.

First get a Trickle Charger and charge the battery up good. Then check your wiring connctions over real good and post back with what you find. I'm not sure about your model but some need the battery to run and some don't. I also wouldn't try runnig the lights untill you get it running long enough to check the charging system.

Thanks. I'll let you know what I find when I can.:)

IF she's blowing fuses, you have an intermittent short... look over the wiring harness for wires with the insulation worn off. Probably near where the harness goes under the tank or other places where the harness moves around when steering.
