hey guys , i am new here and this is my first post on these forums .

I bought a 85 atc 200s , and it runs great when it is running , but it likes to foul out the plugs alot . I can go out and try to start it in the morning and it won't start , i'll put in a new plug and it'll fire right up and run. When you look at the plug , they aren't wet , but carbon fouled "black sooty". i have a feeling it is running rich but i don't want to change alot and mess something up. I took the whole carb off , cleaned it really good . i put the needle clip in the second notch from the top hopeing that would take care of the running rich some, but it did nothing. i have the air screw and fuel screws to the factory specs , 2 turns out for the air screw , and 1-1/4 for the fuel screw. The only other thing that has me stumped is the carb leaks fuel somewhere , i can't seem to figure that out yet, i don't know if it is a bad gasket , or if its getting full and leaking past the needle in the float not working. If you fill the float bowl with gas , and then blow in the fuel line , no air will go in , so im guessing that the needle and seat are ok still.

sorry for the long post , but i just can't seem to figure out why it is fouling the plugs soo much , it seems like every other time i try to start it , the plug goes bad. Should i change the main get to a smaller one ? i wanna say it is a 100 , or a 105.

Any information will be greatly appreciated , thanks guys

PS. what is the difference between a 200s , and a 200 ? thanks - Art

you probelby jsut need to buy a full carb rebuild kit off ebay for $16 shipped. your needle and seat are probebely needing replacement and i imagine the float needle is shot too which is causing the fuel to flow all the time and out the overflow.

Ok thanks, I didn't know that there was a seat Honestly for the needle. I knew that the float needle was pressed in and can't be changed, but I didn't know there was one for the needle . Thanks

yup. you can use a small philips head screwdriver to punch it out. (#1 should work w/o scoring the carb housing)

the jet, idlerjet, gaskets and elas all also get replaced. make sure you get a "pre-formed" bowl gasket kit cause the ones that are not preformed are more difficult to install for firsttimers. (gotta use some blakc hi-temp rtv on the bowl side (very thin layer) then put the ring gasket on and put the halves together. then you will probebly still need to use a small flathead to push in the ring parts that poped out before you got the halfs together.

It's cold where you are, and a 200s is a cold blooded beast. The nature of maybe? a smart mechanic told me, the honda 3 wheelers have been around 20 years and that says alot about quality. if you frigg with em, your askin for trouble. Warm that block, and it will start right up no? Then clean the carb CORRECTLY and it wont leak any more fuel.

well i have had it stored in a heated garage , still doesn't matter if the carb is cleaned or , of it is warm or cold , but honestly i changed to a champion plug and its been alot easier to start .

my machine likes a RA8HC better than a NGK DR8es-l , or DR7ES

just for the sake of it , i went out this morning and it took quite a few pulls but it started , she is only 8 degrees here today , i let it warm up and rode it around some and then i tried out my new compression tester , i got 146 psi.

it went to 90 on the first pull , went to 120 on second , and then 146 . i pulled a bunch more times and that is as high as it went .:Bounce

i let out the pressure and did it again and i got the same!

i am guessing that is pretty damn good .

not i just gotta take care of the carb with a rebuild kit , get some new rear fenders , and get some better tires.

well i think i found my problem as to why my machine was running rich . I ordered my carb rebuild kit , i got it in the mail today from dennis kirk , and man was i missing some orings and gaskets.

The only 2 gaskets that my carb had in them was the one for the bowl , and the one that gets bolted to the intake.

plus the needle was worn really bad and so was the seat , i could put the needle all the way in the seat and it did nothing , no resistance all the way up or down.

now i just have to figure out where all these gaskets go lol :beer thanks for the help guys !

THIS SITE ROCKS !:w00t:
