kickk start slips

I used my kick start for two years while the electric was out.Now the thing dont want to engage,when i kick it it slips down like theres nothin there.if i play with it i can get it to hook up but it takes some time.Id really like to have this option for cold starting when the electric aint cutttin it.Any suggestions?thanks

I would take kicker off, take cover off check gear...might have summer teeth. You know some are there some aren't.

it is a 85 honda 250 es

One way bearing issue would be my guess.
