I decided to throw together a collection of pictures on putting one of these pumps back together. I know alot of guys have experienced the failure and alot of guys inquire on how to do it. Here we go.

First off I made sure the journal where the shaft rides was free of burs and any damage that may have been caused by the removal of old mechanical seals in its life time. I just lubed up the seal with a little BELRAY waterproof grease and tapped it in with a seal driver of adaquate size. Be sure to have WATERSIDE facing out.

Once the seal was installed I lubed the inside of the mechanical seal with some more Bel Ray waterproof grease. Here is the parts that are required to do the job. I purchased all brand new parts.

With the shaft now installed thru the clutch cover it is now time to flip the cover over. Install the washer on the pump shaft and then insert the dowel pin.

Next install the water pump gear to the pump shaft. Notice the retention area for the dowel pin on the backside of the gear. That goes face down onto the shaft so that the shaft can be mechanically driven by the gear.

With the gear installed, the last thing to do is install the e-clip that retains everything on the shaft. Once that is done the job is complete. Do not forget when installing the cover to put the washer back on the end of the shaft before fitting to the crankcase. The washer is easily retained with a dab of grease and installed.

Thanks again DirtCrasher for supplying your services. Steve pinned this waterpump for me. Excellent work from another killer New Englander!
