1. how much for oil goes in the front forks?
2. the rear lower shock mounts. are they the same as the 84-85 tecates? or the same as the 85-86 kx250? will a set form one of them work till i can find the correct set?
3. will a kx250 clutch cable reach? which year, or does it matter?
4. where can i get a manual? or are they not made anymore?

I'm not %100 sure, but I think you can use an 84-85 Tecate clutch cable. Come to think of it, you should be able to find one for the 86-87 anyways.
I'm not sure about the lower shock mounts, but If you need to look at one I can bring my frame over. I gotta get by there soon anyways to drop off my shock.

the 86 manual calls for SAE 10w 20 oil, capacity (completely dry) 499ml + or - 4ml., (when changing oil) 425ml. as for the clutch cable, i dont see why an 84/85 cable wont work on the 86/87 model. i tryed to compare the two lower rear shock mounts on my 85 and 86, but its dark and cold out in the garage, brrrrrrrrr. they almost look identical to me, but im not gonna say they are without actually having them side by side. if you want shoot me your email addy and i can email you a pdf format copy of the 86 manual.

KX cables up through '89 should work on the tecate... The '90 and up KX's are different..

The rear lower shock mounts are different. The 84/85 T3 has a centered rear shock. The 86/87 T3 has an offset rear shock. All the stuff on the 86/87 is offset on the rear shock. That's why if you use the 86 swinger on the 84/85 you have to cut off the control arm (I think that's what it's called) mount and re-weld it centered.

Yes, I just went and double check, the rear shock mounts are significantly different.

thanks for the info. the lower shock mounts looked close, but i wasn't sure, as i haven't seen a set for the 86 yet. 85's are all over ebay. figured i could make them work, guess not.
i was going to place an order threw dennis kirk and they have no listing for a tecate clutch cable. thats why i was seeing if i could use a kx250 cable, or not. i have seen 86 cables on ebay.
are bearing carriers easy to find? mine has been welded up a few times and theres still cracks in it! and its a bit deformed.

Bikebandit sells the cable you need. It's like $16 + shipping.
This one I'm not positive on either, but I think you can use an 84-85 bearing carrier. If so, I've got a few of those kickin around I think. I've also got at least 2 spare rear axles, too. I know the 85 axle has different hub splines than the 86, though. I've also got some 85 hubs.

the 84-85's use a smaller bearing, so the axle must be smaller in diameter. the housings look the same, though.
i plan to use a lt250r axle and hubs, so i need the 86-87 axle housing. lt axle slides right in. i'll just have to use the one i have for now.

Last 86-87 bearing carrier on ebay went for about $61 shipped. The 84-85 bearing carrier can be used but is different as far as # of bolt holes. Use 86/87 bearings in 84/85 carrier for larger axle.
I compared the LT250R axle and it could be made to work but there were a few issues. Too bad the Tecate sprocket/brake hubs don't go on LT axle.

i have a lt250 durablue axle i'm going to put in the the tecate. useing all lt parts, brake, sprocket, and wheel hubs. also going to use a lt caliper. i don't have a tecate brake hub, disc or caliper. so i'm going to use what i have. the parts just don't bolt up, gonna need some fabbing to get everything right. the axle sits about a half inch to the left to much, gotta fix that.
the lt brake hub fits the tecate axle. but the disc has a larger od. but that can be fixed...

Your tank, shrouds and overflow bottle will be sent south to RI tomorrow via the bomber express. Closer to your zipcode at least...lol
Forks havent been looked at yet but you get all the spare parts from them...

I have an extra Tecate brake hub. I am awaiting delivery another axle setup. I have 2 bent axles and left over hubs. Bent axles might be fixable too.
I have manuals in PDF but are like 50mb a piece. Will fit on CD though.
I could look at 86 lower shock mounts too if you still need a comparison but I don't think they are the same since all the suspension geometry would not be either.

Here is pics of the shock mount comparison. The first pic is the 86 (still mounted on the frame). Second pic is the 85 just as they mount on the frame. Third pic is a side by side (best I could do) comparison.

Just wondering, are the pics helpful? i know they aren't the greatest but I hope they help in distinguishing the difference. I've had so many people give me advice on here that it feels good to be able to return the favor a small bit.

the '86 KX250 cylinder is identical to the KXT.. the '85 KX has a bridged flat roofed eyebrow style exhaust and smaller exhaust subs like the '84 KX250 except they are valved.. I dont know how they compare in performance, but I would think the '86 would be smoother and better overall than the '85

The 85 KX has different power valves, so you would need those. I would not go there.
