It runs good, needs a chain/sprocket set and the plastics are shot.......I smell a Black R cooking.....more to follow in the morning......oh and it cost less than my stimulus check was.....but it needs some love!

Wow, 20 posts and I haven't even showed a pic yet!
Well, it's after midnite and I just got in. I am going to throw some teeaser pics in, and Brap, they are useable I guess in a pinch, but it took a tumble out the back of a truck at some point in its life, and they are stiched with zip ties....and faded to hell....I never knew a red tank could fade out to white....
I hope I didn't piss anyone off but I posted this entire thing while driving at 75 mph to St Louis and back to look at this thing. Just figured I'd have fun and stir the pot while driving....it's always exciting when someone has a good find....I bought it from the 3rd owner of 2 years, and the second owner owned it since 1989. When it took the truck tumble, it bent the axle, so now it has a dura-blue axle under it with good bearings.
Anyway, here are just a couple of pics I snapped before I went in. It's getting a bath tomorrow and then we'll see where we're at.

Took it out of the back of the truck this morn and fired it up......I'll say this- I AIN"T NO 200X!!! LOL!! Coulcn't be happier and it's stock. I weigh 250 and I can't keep it on the ground....I LOVE IT! Wife's coming home today, so I have to clean the house, not sure how much timeI'll get to play with it today.
I looked the front fender over, and at one time it had the Hondaline Fender extension on it, but it's long gone....Going to need a complete headlight assy and at least one strap.

Well, I got it washed off at the local spray wash, they actually have warm water for their spray bays, so it's psuedo-steam cleaning. Cleaned up decent, but has a lot of work to do. I think I have some issues with the forks, as I said it took a tumble at some point in it's life, but the trees are either twisted or I hope not the neck, and I think I have a bent fork tube prob.....pics are uploading...

I am going to buy a set of red fenders but am gonna sand and paint my old tank black and eventually do a set of black fenders too!
PAINT wont hold to that plastic its polytheylene and is a breathable plastic, the fumes from the gas will seep out and near instantly ruin the paint even stickers wont hold to it, better find you a black tank.

Deffinetly something funky going on there. Pics can be deceiving but in this pic the frame looks a little twisted at the neck.
Great pickup tho. 250r frames cant be too hard to come by.
My 86 200x there wasnt anything on it that wasnt twisted or bent.
Good luck with it.

get some support under neith the frame, then wiggle the forks and feel for play, if there is it could be an ovalized head tube, wich means the part of the frame that the steering bearings sit in has strechted from impact

Man, I can't help it but nobody is pointing this out to you so I will. When you say it took a tumble out the back of a truck, do you mean when the truck was doing 70m.p.h.? Because, to be honest, even at highway speeds, if it fell out of the back of a truck and tumbled around, that shouldn't be enough force to twist the frame, bend the forks, twist the triples and bend the axle. It takes a lot of force to do that much damage. Like, jumping it 20 feet in the air and slamming it down so hard it bottoms out severly type of abuse. I don't know how much you paid, but I fear the owner was not entirley honest with you about what the bike has been through. I hope I'm wrong and all is well, but that's a lot of damage. I hope you got a good deal on it.

Congrats fellow vol on your new pumper. I got my first one a few months ago from sweet willie waterpumper86. I rode it a few times and now it is completely tore down for some needed repaires.
I bought my first air cooler from up around your way a couple years back and I had to stop on 40 on the way back to henderson and fire it up so I understand the anticipation!! I also used my blackberry for this. Post BTW.

hey hoosier daddy i think your wrong i lost a blaster out of the truck at 50 mph and it was nothign but a ball of junk when it stoped cartwheeling. and i hit a treestump at 15mph and complettle broke a 350x frame in half so it doesnt take serious abous ejuty a hard enough hit at the right angle

I am going to pull parts from arounf the neck to look for wierd stress marks, but visually standing in front, I don't think the nect is twesaked, but you can stand in front and know there is someting wierd, it looks like the left fork is bent toward the right side...oh well, give me something to do anyway. It's not enought to not ride it!
From what I can see it don't look bad at all.

Hey Im not trying to knock you or your purchase. As long as your ok with it thats all that matters.
What ever the problems are with the forks/trips/frame can all be corrected.
I can certainly relate to your situation tho... I bought a 86 200x for 300$ at night and when I got it home and started really looking at it I figured out that the forks were bent, the frame was bent, the rear axle was bent and the swing arm was junk. So now Im doing a total restore (non-professional) and thats what I planned to do anyway.
Have fun with it! :beer

Yep, that left fork is bent and like Johnnie says - a frame can be easily bought and swapped. It looks to be all near original which is saweeet!!
If it runs good and other parts are good, your well on your way.
My easy way of checking for an even "slight bend" is:
Get the front tire off the ground and loosen up all 8 bolts or take em out.
Get 4 screwdrivers and GENTLY tap them inbetween the open part of the tripple clamp. Sometimes it has to be done on an angle up or down as to not hit the fork tube itself.
Then just grab the tube and spin it. You'll see the lower tube moving all around like crazy even with a tiny bend.
I've done this when buying bikes just to prove the owner wrong.....
It takwes about 5 minutes and the tire and everything else can stay on.

Nice method DC, and yes the forks are bent. When I lifted the front end, there was no head bearing play and the trips don't flop to one side or the other, so I think the neck is still true vert, but a pair of forks will make a difference...
