View Full Version : DG pipe for the Yamaha YT60 Tr-Zinger, is it worth it?

I have heard mixed reviews about the DG pipes, for some models they are a great pipe where on others they are just louder then stock without a performance gain. What about on the Zinger, does it help with the performance or would it just be a waist of money and I should keep the stock exhaust (restrictor removed) on it?

they are certainly too loud. I can't stand it when the kid blasts around on that bleepin thing!

They are loud, but it definitely made a difference over a stock pipe. And the stock zinger pipes are one of those pretzel bend kind of affairs that are very restrictive and have a tendency to be loaded up with carbon, rust and oil anyway. They are a little goofy to install, but it beat the stock pipe by far. At least it did on the zinger that I had.

It’s actually my friend’s trike, he uses it a pit rider at the drag races so I don't think noise is a problem. He keeps getting put to shame by the guy on the atc70 so we have to sup it up a little. Right now the zinger is in very nice stock shape, his dad bought it new for him back when he was a kid.

The thing I dont like about the DG, is that it sticks out the back pretty far from the pics that I have seen. One irresponsible wheelie, and bam! Nice ding in your pretty pipe.

Well, how crazy does your buddy want to get with his zinger? Once you have a better exhaust, your next big fix is the intake. That will take a little fab work, but you need to bend a slight larger intake pipe from aluminum and see about getting a nice carb from a pw80 for starter. Once you get some fuel and air into it and flowing out, you will wake it up quite a bit. Also you might look into modding the reed valves. You will probably have to cut you a nice new piece that would also take the pw80 reed set up. If you have some nylon or nice high density plastic or even that brown stuff like the yt60 reed base is made of, just use a dremel tool and size it up for the pw80 reeds just like the yt60 reed block is and you'll notice a big difference. Your next limiting factors are the gearing and if you want to get it to leave harder, then you have to get the heavier duty springs for the centrifugal clutch like they use in the pw50s. I can explain the gearing better if you want to get that serious but it involves taking a gear out of a yamaha moped and switching that with the gear in the yt60. Alot of work, but it will strt rolling then.
