Hey guys, I've got a question for all of you wheeling in the cold. I live in North Dakota and right now the temp is 40 below zero but i wanna go riding!! My question for you guys is this, do you use any type of stick on block heaters or heat tape or any ideas to keep my trikes warm so they will start for me??? I have an '85 350x, '84 250r and then my '73 atc70. I want to get the 350x out and start tearin up the snow, we have more up here than I've seen in years. Any ideas guys?

thanks in advance for any help

I had to pull start my 200 today. The starter rope broke a few weeks ago and I haven't fixed it yet. It was a little tough doing it on snowy streets. We had to use the sidewalk were people had scrapped already. For some reason ( I think its the kill switch) I could not get the 185 started. Today it was only about 15 outside.

I got out yesterday to get some new fuel in the trike.

15 degrees but seems to help to kick it over a few times and then use elec from there out.

I need to give my battery a good charge before I take it ice fishing!

I wish we could get temps above zero around here for even a day.
I can get them to start, i guess i was just looking for some tips to keep them warm and see if anybody had ever used those magnetic type heaters or something similar to it. I'm just not a big fan of firing up any machine when it's below zero without being plugged in. I've tried a heat gun...it helps to heat up the head and stuff but there's no way i'm gonna hold a heat gun for an hour when it's that cold haha
tarp and a heater though is an idea.....as long as i don't start anything on fire...

How many months out of the year is it that fricken cold in ND??

I'll ride in 20 degrees and above, other than that, I'm perfectly happy in my 72 degree warmed home......

Today the high was -3 Degrees I took the tri-moto down the road for a rip. She's a bit brisk but once you freeze you don't feel it any more! lol

Holy schnikes! You guys are nuts! I rode in 5 degree weather and i thought that was bad. I think i saw -11 in a post! The best way to get a trike started in the winter is ELEC START! :) The sx takes HOURS to fire if i am going to kick it. If i use the elec start (now that its fixed) it only takes 3-4 tries and then one or two more to keep it running on its own. I have the orig. problematic '85 carb minus the cold kit. 73atc70- for your problem of cold starts, i would pre-heat the carb with a heat gun/hair dryer if your having a problem. Those magnetic pads probably would work. Just slap one on your case and that should work.

Coldest weather I rode in was when we went Ice fishing in a tournament. The high for the day was -10 coldest was around -30 in the morning at 6 am. It was and wasn't fun at the same time. My yamaha starts good in the cold, best way to start a 250r or my other buddies 450r was dragging them behind the ytm-200. Old faithful got em lit up every time

just to get an idea...it was 0 degrees in Williston, ND today and that was the ambient temp! it was still below zero with the wind chill. That's the warmest it's been up here in about 2 weeks.
It's finally suppose to warm up the day after xmas...high of 29 degrees!! I can't wait! hahaha
and i feel for you hunting in the cold...I was goose hunting earlier this year in -5 degree weather, it was a little chilly
one good thing though is that we have plenty of ice to go do some riding later this week!
