Ok, so after A LOT of searching, I've found there IS a mod for adding a decompression lever to a 1985 200X. My Reasoning, The kick start spring has failed and I have a (sometimes) worthless Goki electric starter.

I'm understand other models have the cable in the head, but thats not really the route i want to go .....yet. I seen mentions of cam covers that have this cable, but I believe all of those are for a pull start.:wondering

So what is the path of least resistance for modding a decompression level to the 200x?

Is there even have a decompression assembly on it? One that i could tap into?

If there isn't a known way without replacing parts from other machines, I will be willing to Try some home customizing with pics for a how-to.

PLease help..... before i have to get out the angle grinder.

use any 200cc honda valve cover with a decomp lever....the 200x has nothing so youll need the exhaust rocker from said 200 as well.

My 83 200X has a Goki electric start and a decompression lever. Whoever owned it before me did the conversion. They actually used the parking brake cable from the brake lever and routed it back around to the head.

I don't know anything about what parts were used, or even if the motor is an original 200X. I assume so.. and it looks so.. but I guess it could be an xr200 motor

Use the rocker cover and rockers off an early ATC185s with the manual decompression lever. The early 200cc Big Reds had the same setup.
You can use the later 185 and 200 rocker covers as well. Its just the lever was meant to hold a cable to the pull start. You can attach a 6mm bolt and a couple of nuts to make it easier to use manually at the head.

I saw another, with the head for $150. But i dont know what a good price is for just the valve cover, or maybe someone here has one for a good price...

What does that decomp. cable connect to?

BTW, Great pics!!!:w00t:

It's actually the parking brake cable that is attached to the clutch lever. They put a u in it and ran it back to the decompression release. I removed the guts to the GOKI electric start (battery, battery box, wiring) because of the extra weight. I have never used the decomp. release with the kicker or with the electric start. I have a Tecate so I don't think it starts hard without it.

I'd probably sell or trade the GOKI if someone had the stock parts to replace where it mounts to the motor.

For sure, nice Pics. I wouldn't be able to use the praking brake as I have use that for a hand brake, since all I really use it for is stunting.

Howdy, what price could you give me shipped to 49240?

If I was to get these new parts to make the started work, I would probably be willing to take your goki starter off your hands to put on my friends 200x. and I would have some stock parts laying around.... stock stator, stock valve cover... ya know?

This is a good idea.

PS: do you still have the batt. box and acces.?

That rocker cover is the one you want. They seal a little differently near the outside cam journal but it is not a problem. Same specs on the rockers as your 200X. Adjust your valve clearances and go riding.

Yes, I still have it all. It worked fine. The battery box itself is a homemade job that bolts between the rear grab bar bolts under the seat. Attached to the battery box is the starter relay. I'll get pics up. The 200X also came with a white fairing that bolted to the handlebars. I've since taken that off as well.

well Howdy is trying to find me one so i may not need the eboy item. Thanks for the info, I'm pretty excited about getting the Goki to work.

I ended up mounting the battery box under the left rear fender. even if i bottom out, it doesn't hit anything. but it certainly doesn't look as trick as if it wear under the tail...

you can see it here

too bad you couldnt hook up a cable like on the xr200 bikes so when you kick it it hits the compression release or the start button either one would be sweet i woyuld do that then since the 12:1 is hard to kick or use the goki on for me

i Might Hook up a solenoid to it. once i get the new valve cap, I'll have an idea what i can work with. End Product = Jump on, and hit start!!

You have a PM!! If your thinking if hooking up a solenoid you might want the cable style lever, other wise you will want the manual lever. It don't matter to me because I have both styles available.
